Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued among people that some believe we can watch films at home on our smartphones and tablets instead of visiting a cinema; however, others think that we can enjoy movie at the theater only. In this essay, I will discuss both perspectives, and explain why I support the latter view.

On the one hand, one of the main reasons why individuals think that we can see films at home. Firstly, due to advancements in technology, individuals now have an opportunity to download new movies from different kinds of websites such as Amazon Prime and Netflix. They can watch downloaded films either on their phones or on tablets at home, which also helps them to save money. Secondly, it is often noticed that a significant amount of time is spent by worker at the workplace. Sometimes, they are unable to find accurate show time in the cinema according to their schedules; therefore, they prefer to download movie on their phones and watch according to their convenience.

On the other hand, some people prefer to visit the cinema for watching movie because new movies first play in cinemas, but people need to wait for some weeks to download a new movie from the internet. For example, recently the Punjabi movie Judda was released on August 21,2026, but this movie is not available on the internet yet. In addition, not only the size of the screen but also the quality of sound in a cinema cannot be compared with a phone. People can do more enjoy for watching a movie in the theater than at home; consequently, people cannot find the cinema's facilities at home.

In conclusion, although watching film at home is save time and money, I believe that watching movie at the theater is more enjoyable due to the size of the screen and the quality of the sound.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and clearly states a personal position in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as convenience and cost for home viewing versus the immersive experience of the cinema. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'worker at the workplace' is a bit vague and could have been expanded with more specific examples of how busy schedules impact leisure choices. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more depth to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Secondly', 'In addition', and 'consequently' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the sentence fragment 'one of the main reasons why individuals think that we can see films at home.' While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the use of cohesive devices could be more natural and varied to improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'advancements in technology' and 'convenience'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'do more enjoy for watching' instead of 'enjoy watching more' and 'is save time' instead of 'saves time'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. Expanding the range of collocations would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'worker at the workplace' should be 'workers at their workplaces', 'watching movie' should be 'watching movies'). Additionally, some sentences are structurally incomplete or awkward, such as the opening sentence. While the writer attempts complex structures, the control over these is inconsistent. Improving accuracy in basic grammar and ensuring sentence completeness will significantly improve the quality of the writing.
