Student answer (Band 6.5)

Due to advancement in technology, watching movies on tablets or phone rather than to visit cinema is highly debated topic nowadays. Some individuals believe it is convenient to use smartphone to watch new movies than to go to the movie theatre while others believe films should be watched in cinema for full enjoyment. I would be discussing both the views and will give my opinion in the upcoming paragraphs.

There are few reasons of people believing to watch cinema on tablets or phone. Firstly, watching movies using phone is far more convenient for the people who do not get time to go movie theatre because they can watch their choice of movie anytime and anyplace. Moreover they have an option to pause and restart when they have any important work to do in between. Secondly, multiple online platforms are available that provides wide range of shows of different genres that just includes in minimal monthly subscription whereas to watch a movie in cinema that cost a lot more. For example, according to the recent survey 60% of youngsters prefer to take online subscription rather than going physically to cinema.

On the other hand many individuals believe watching movies in cinema is better than watching it in a small screen. The reason behind this is, theatre provides an environment where one can fully focus on the movie so there are low chances of being distracted and better understanding of movie. Also, nowadays many theatre has an option where one can watch movie in 3D, 4D or in 4K resolution that involves all the senses of the body that ultimately intensify the experience of a person. For instance, as per the recent research an Avatar 3D movie got it's highest remuneration from the cinema popularity and not from the online platforms.

To summarize, although their are few advantages of watching movies on tablets or phone like easy accessibility, multiple choices, and lower fees but experiencing cinema in theatre is far better due to it's big screen, less distraction and other interesting options of watching movie in 3D and 4D.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of 3D/4D technology and online subscription models. However, the development of the arguments is somewhat basic. For instance, the point about 'remuneration' for Avatar is a bit unclear in its connection to the argument. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on the implications of these points rather than just listing them. The position is consistent throughout the essay, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level of task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'To summarize' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing (e.g., 'their are' instead of 'there are'). The progression of ideas is clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect sentences more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'subscription', 'genres', 'remuneration', and 'accessibility'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'remuneration' (which usually refers to payment for work, not box office earnings) and 'includes in' (which is grammatically awkward). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band. Focusing on collocations and more natural phrasing would significantly improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles (e.g., 'to visit cinema', 'go to movie theatre'), subject-verb agreement ('platforms... that provides'), and punctuation (e.g., 'it's' used for possessive 'its'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to article usage and ensure that complex sentences are constructed accurately. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move toward a higher band.
