IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that now we can see films on our phones or tablets there is no need to go to the cinema. Others say that to be fully enjoyed, films need to be seen in a cinema.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

There are two opposite viewpoints of individuals about watching movies, where some people thinks that their phones or tablets are convenient way of watching TV. While, others prefer to watch them in theatre to get full entertainment experience. Therefore, before expressing my opinion , both the views are discussed in detail .

Considering the first view, some people experiencing ease of using advanced technology whether for work purpose or entertainment purpose. They feel convenient to watch films on their phones or tablets as people nowadays take subscription of many applications. For example, Netflix and Amazon Prime have all the new and old movies available. Moreover, they can enjoy at home with their family with single subscription without having questions about weather conditions and also saves money and travel time. For example it can save money on multiple movie tickets, snacks ans travel expenses.

On the other hand, some people are still believing in old settings of watching films in cinemas to experience full exposure. In addition to this, some features such as screen quality, sound effects are irreplaceable compared to theatres. For example 3D and 4D movies are not possible to watch at home due to the 3D and 4D goggles effect. Watching movies at cinemas is also one kind of family outing where the whole family get to spend time with each other and enjoy the evenings. For instance, some multiplex also provide recliner seats to feel comfortable and a part of film.

To conclude the discussion, although newly advanced technology offers handy watching experience and variety of options, I firmly believe that training way of watching films in cinemas hold a best viewing experience and it should be continued to maintain the cinemas tradition as for upcoming generations to take exposure of old methods

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of ideas. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'subscription', 'sound effects', and 'multiplex'. However, there is a lack of more sophisticated or 'less common' lexical items that would elevate the score. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'training way of watching' (likely meant 'traditional way') and 'take exposure of old methods'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for a wider range of precise vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
