Student answer (Band 6.5)

People's view differ as to whether they should watch movies on their phones or they should go to cinema halls for more entertainments. While I will discuss both perspectives, personally, I agree with the latter viewpoint.

Those who argue for staying home and watching films on their cellphones have their reasons. Firstly, It is a convenient way. In other worlds, they do not need to travel all the way to metropolitan cities to watch, which will save their time as well as efforts. Furthermore, Individuals have more options as compared to those who goes to cinema halls. Since there is limited movies to watch in cinema, they prefer to watch on tablets. Additionally, not only have people more variety of movies to watch, but they also have chance to save money. To explain this, in cinema they have to pay to watch movies; however, In mobile phones, they do not need to pay because there are many apps where people could watch free of charges.

Nevertheless, Despite the aforementioned arguments, I agree with those who feel that individuals ought to go to cinema for entertainment. Nowadays, people are very lazy, and they rarely do outdoor activities. Therefore, if they go to cinemas to watch films, it could be recreational activities because they can do much more fun when they go to nearby cities, such as playing games, and try new foods. Similarly, it is also beneficial for their social life since it is a place, where most youngsters make friends. As people come at cinema to watch particular movies, thereby, it is possible that you can meet persons who have same interest.

In my opinion, although there are some positives of watching movies on tablets, it is much more advantages for individuals to go cinemas in order to keep them physically and socially fit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as convenience and cost-saving for home viewing, and social/recreational benefits for cinema-going. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument about 'lazy' people and 'trying new foods' is a bit tangential to the core experience of watching a film. To reach a higher band, the arguments should be more focused on the cinematic experience itself (e.g., sound quality, screen size, atmosphere) rather than peripheral activities. The position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Nevertheless', and 'In my opinion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'In other worlds' (likely a misuse of 'In other words') and the repetitive use of 'Similarly' and 'Therefore'. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentence structures are slightly disjointed, which occasionally affects the flow of ideas. Overall, the progression of the argument is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'metropolitan', 'aforementioned', and 'recreational', but there are also noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'for more entertainments' (should be 'entertainment'), 'limited movies' (should be 'few movies'), and 'free of charges' (should be 'free of charge'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('those who goes', 'people have more variety'), article misuse ('at cinema'), and awkward phrasing ('not only have people more variety'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some errors in comma usage. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the grammatical mistakes do not cause significant difficulty for the reader.
