Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 169 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both views and provides a personal opinion, the arguments are underdeveloped and repetitive. The points regarding cost and convenience are mentioned but lack the necessary depth, examples, or logical expansion required for a higher band. The response is essentially a series of fragmented thoughts rather than a cohesive discussion, leading to a failure to fully address all parts of the task in a meaningful way.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively separate distinct ideas; instead, the text feels disjointed. There is a severe lack of cohesive devices (such as 'furthermore', 'however', or 'consequently') to link sentences and ideas. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. The overall structure is mechanical and lacks the flow necessary for a higher score, as the ideas do not build upon one another in a coherent manner.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive, relying on a limited range of words such as 'people', 'movie', and 'watch'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Advancement technology is help to people' and 'didn't money of people'. These errors occasionally impede communication, as the intended meaning is sometimes obscured. The student does not demonstrate the ability to use less common lexical items or idiomatic language, which is necessary for higher band scores. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are significant issues with verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure (e.g., 'There was not like crowed', 'they was go to friends'). The essay relies almost exclusively on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are consistently faulty. Punctuation is also inconsistent. Because the errors are pervasive and often make the text difficult to understand, the grammatical control is very limited.
