Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed that cinemas are the best place to watch a movie, however many people think that mobile phones or tablets are good options instead of going to theatres for films. Although using mobile phones or other devices costs less to watch a movie,I believe that watching films at cinema houses have no disturbance at all.

To the farmar view, using technological devices such as phones, laptops or tablets is a budget-friendly and a convenient approach for watching movies beacuse it only requires an internet connection. For example, people can watch films while travelling, late at nights or even anytime in their free time. Not only the affordable but also saves time of travelling to cinemas and cuts the long waiting times to get tickets in movie theatres.

To the latter view, cinema houses is the best option to watch movies, where people can spend the quality time with their families and friends. They can enjoy the stories on a huge screen without any distractions. It is also a great way of socialising, which allows public to meet new people. For instance, watching movies at threates gives an opportunity to the fans to meet of filmstars. Conclusively, unforgettable memories can be created.

In conclusion, even though watching movies on phones or other gadgets is a cheaper option, however I believe the later opinion is viable that going to cinemas has considerable benefits, which encourages people to spend quality time and make memories with their friends and families that would make relations strong.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the benefits of mobile viewing (convenience, cost) and cinema viewing (socializing, screen size) are mentioned, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. For instance, the claim that fans can meet film stars at theatres is an unrealistic example that weakens the argument. To reach a higher band, you should focus on developing your points with more logical reasoning and realistic supporting details rather than listing several points briefly. The position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a positive aspect.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To the former view', 'To the latter view', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'To the farmar view' (a spelling error) and the repetitive use of 'To the... view'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more naturally. Paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication. You use some topic-specific terms like 'budget-friendly', 'convenient', and 'socialising'. However, there are several spelling errors ('farmar', 'beacuse', 'threates') and some awkward collocations ('cinema houses', 'watching films at cinema houses have no disturbance'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic phrasing. To improve, you should focus on accurate spelling and expanding your range of collocations to express ideas with more precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('watching films... have no disturbance', 'cinema houses is the best option') and punctuation errors, particularly with comma splices and missing spaces after punctuation. The sentence 'Not only the affordable but also saves time' is grammatically incorrect. While you attempt complex structures, the control over them is inconsistent. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring correct sentence construction will significantly improve your score.
