Student answer (Band 5.5)
People have different opinions on watching movies. Some people like to watch it on their mobile phones while others prefer to watch it in the theatre. This essay will discuss both the views and explain why I personally agree with one of them.
Some people believe that there is no need to go to the cinema to watch a film. In recent years, we have so many social platforms on which we can enjoy the movie. They argue that we can take breaks whenever we want unlike theatres. In addition to that, we can watch it at our free times. If we have some work while watching then we can pause and continue once the work is done. We can enjoy in our comfortable position. With less cost, more people can enjoy the film. We can watch it anywhere like in the office, at room, at hall etc. There are no boundaries related to time and space. Also, we can spend our time with family on weekends and enjoy.
On the other hand, another people said that if you want to fully enjoy a movie then going to cinema hall the only option. The environment in the hall truly affects the experience. In addition, we can watch the movie before it comes on social media or phones. We can get fresh by going to a new place from our regular routine. We can meet new people and enjoy with them. Plus, the sound system and a big screen impact a lot if the movie is horror.
To sum up, both the sides have valid arguments, I prefer watching entertainment shows on my tablet rather than going out.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the points regarding 'social platforms' and 'sound systems' are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with detailed examples. The essay covers all parts of the prompt, but the arguments lack depth and analytical rigor, which is expected for a higher band score. To improve, you should expand on your points by explaining the 'why' and 'how' behind your claims rather than simply listing them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a logical progression from the advantages of home viewing to the benefits of the cinema. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'In addition to that', 'In addition', 'Also'). Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the referencing could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of home viewing and the conclusion is quite sudden. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'enjoy', and 'watch'. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'at room' and 'at hall', which are non-standard. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, it is limited. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the film industry and media consumption, such as 'cinematic experience', 'convenience', 'immersive', or 'accessibility', and ensure that word choices are natural and contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'another people said' (should be 'other people say'), 'at our free times' (should be 'in our free time'), and 'impact a lot' (should be 'has a significant impact'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after periods. The range of structures is limited, and the errors, while not impeding communication, are noticeable throughout the text. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and more varied sentence construction would be beneficial.
