Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both perspectives and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'unique experience' of cinema is clear, but the explanation of why mobile devices are 'boring' could be more sophisticated. The position is clear throughout, though the conclusion is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced examples and ensure that the personal opinion is integrated more fluidly into the overall argument rather than just stated in the introduction and conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'In contrast', and 'To conclude'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as starting sentences with 'To commence with.' or 'In contrast.' followed by a period. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words that connect ideas more smoothly rather than relying on standard transition markers at the start of every paragraph.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'commute', 'visuals', and 'sound system'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'favorite hobby of many people' (should be 'favorite hobbies'), 'good experience', and 'mobile type devices'. The range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a higher level of control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many working individuals has shortage'), incorrect preposition usage ('commute to from their homes'), and punctuation errors (e.g., unnecessary periods after introductory phrases). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To achieve a higher score, you need to focus on consistent subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and refining your control over complex sentence structures to reduce the frequency of these minor errors.
