Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited by the lack of clarity in the arguments. For instance, the claim that watching films on tablets increases productivity is not fully explained or logically connected to the context of entertainment. While the prompt is addressed, the supporting examples, such as the mention of a friend or college peers, are superficial and lack the depth required for a higher band. The essay maintains a consistent position throughout, but the reasoning remains repetitive and lacks sophistication.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Withal' and 'In recapitulation'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing. While there is an attempt at logical progression, the connections between ideas are often weak, making the overall argument feel disjointed. The transition between the two viewpoints and the personal opinion is present but lacks the smooth integration expected at higher levels.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often used incorrectly, which occasionally impedes communication. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'make excellent our entertainment days', 'get fun', and 'theator'. The student attempts to use more complex vocabulary, but these attempts often result in unnatural phrasing. The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but the lack of precision and the repetitive use of basic terms prevent a higher score. Spelling errors, such as 'conciouse' and 'que', also detract from the overall quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is poor. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('one of my friend who always see'), incorrect verb forms ('going to the cinema for watch'), and missing articles. Many sentences are structurally awkward, making them difficult to parse. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction significantly impacts the readability of the essay.
