Student answer (Band 6.0)

Watching films are entertainment source which helps to reduce stress of whole day. It is discussed by some people that either watching movies on mobile phone and tablet or to go the cinema is more fun. In my opinion, go to cinema is more fun as whole family watch comfortably and enjoy the big screen.

On the one hand, watching films on phones or tablets is very convenient. People can watch films whenever and whatever they want. If they are busy either housework or business work they can pause with the help of portable gadgets. For example, a person can watch film at home while relaxing after work. Most of time female watch movies during household chores. He or she have no need to go to cinema and spend money to buy tickets or other eatable products. As a result, it helps to save not only money but also time.

On the other hand, watching movies in a cinema can provide a better experience. In cinema people enjoy movie by large screens and a powerful sound system which can create interest in the movies. For example, watching an action or science fiction movie on cinema on a large screen can be more enjoyable than watching on small screens. Additionally, mostly people prefer to cinema either friends or family members it helps to strong relationships and spend quality time with them.

In conclusion, watching movies on portables devices is more convenient and cheap but cinema provide better sound quality, picture as well as atmosphere. Therefore, I believe cinemas are still important even though technology has made watching films at home much easier.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of mobile devices versus the immersive experience of the cinema. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'female watch movies during household chores' is a generalization that lacks depth and clarity. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more specific, logical examples and ensure that your reasoning is consistently well-supported throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as the use of 'He or she' without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'portable gadgets', 'sound system', and 'atmosphere'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'eatable products' (instead of 'snacks' or 'refreshments') and 'mostly people' (instead of 'most people'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary and idiomatic expressions to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Watching films are', 'female watch', 'cinemas are still important even though technology has made...'), article usage, and prepositional phrases (e.g., 'prefer to cinema'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining your use of articles and prepositions.
