Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many people believe that going to the cinema is a waste of time while other disagree and state that the cinema is the best place to view and get the most out of the experience. I am of the opinion that watching movies in a cinema create a more immersive experience and improves relationships among people.
On one hand, watching movies using modern technology like phones and tablet have become popular with many individuals because it is more convenient and provides privacy. With patience, even blockbuster films are available to be watched on both legal and illegal sites. This eliminates the issue of paying exorbitant prices to watch a film that is 1 hour long and may not even be as interesting as advertised. Many people are willing to sacrifice enjoyment for comfortability.
On the other hand, There are so many more benefit in going to watch a movie in the cinema especially if it is with family and friends. Apart from enjoying the quality of watch in the rooms available, it also provides new experiences for families looking to bond with each other. The ambience of the cinema also make the movie enjoyable as it immerses movie watchers. Some cinemas even have special effects like water spray and moving chairs. Snacks are also readily available to enjoy with a good movie. Also, you can bask in joy knowing that you directly supported an actor rather than watching on illegal sites that have nefarious people managing it.
Movies are made as a form of entertainment for everyone, however, It can be enjoyed either at the comfort of a sofa or at a cinema with many other people. I believe that we as humans are social beings and experiences last a lifetime and so actively making the decision to watch a movie in a cinema not only allows a person enjoy the movie but also creates lasting memories.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of mobile devices versus the immersive experience of cinemas. However, some points are slightly under-developed; for instance, the mention of 'nefarious people' managing illegal sites is a bit tangential and could have been replaced with a more focused argument about the cinematic experience itself. Overall, the position is consistent throughout the essay, and the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Apart from' are used to guide the reader. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly abrupt transition in the final paragraph. Despite these minor mechanical issues, the progression of ideas remains clear and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. The student uses some good collocations like 'immersive experience', 'lasting memories', and 'exorbitant prices'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'quality of watch' (should be 'quality of viewing') and 'comfortability' (which is less natural than 'comfort'). While the range is adequate to convey meaning precisely, it lacks the more sophisticated, idiomatic control required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('watching movies... have become', 'ambience... make the movie', 'It can be enjoyed... It can be enjoyed') and punctuation errors (unnecessary capitalization of 'There' and 'It'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent sentence structure control.
