Student answer (Band 7.0)

In today's digital era, the integration of technology into various aspects of life has sparked debates about its benefits and drawback. It has been reckoned by aruged that the availiability og films on smartphones and tablets has made going to the cinema unnecessary, while others argue that films can only be fully appreciated when watched in a cinema. This essay will elucidate the both views and I believe that cinema still provide a superior and more enjoyable viewing experience.

To commence with, moblie phones and tablets have made watching films considerably more convenient. To expand, people can access a vast range of movies whenever and wherever they want, without having to travel to a cinema or follow a fixed schedule. This is particularly beneficial for people with busy lifestyles, as they can watch a film during a journey, at home or while taking a break from work. To cite an illustration, a student who has limited free time can watch a movie on a tablet in several parts instead of spending several hours travelling to and from a cinema.

On the filp side, cinemas offer an atmosphere and level of immersion that personal devices cannot esaily reproduce. A large screen, powerfull sound system and comfortable seating allow viewers to become fully absorbed in the film. In addition, going to the cinema is often a social activity , enabling friends and family members to share an experience together. Then cinema environment also helps people avoid distractions such as messages, notification and household chores.

In my view, although smartphones and tablets are ideal for convenience and casual viewing, they cannot completely replace cinemas. For films that rely heavily on impressive visuals and sounds, the cinema remains the best option, whereas mobile devices are more suitable for everyday entertainment.

To recapitulate, personal devices have made films easier and more flexible to access, but cinema continue to offer a more immersive and social experience. Therefore, I believe both forms of viewing have their advantages, although cinemas are still preferable for fully enjoying high-quality films.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the arguments regarding convenience for mobile viewing and the immersive atmosphere of cinemas. The position is consistent throughout the response. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific, real-world examples rather than general scenarios, such as mentioning a specific type of film genre that benefits from the cinema experience versus one that is suitable for mobile viewing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'On the flip side', and 'To recapitulate' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The progression of ideas is smooth, and referencing is generally clear. The flow is natural, though some transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to avoid a mechanical feel.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'fully appreciated', 'immersive and social experience', and 'everyday entertainment' are used effectively. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'aruged' instead of 'argued', 'availiability og' instead of 'availability of', and 'filp side'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching the highest band. The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over grammar, though some minor errors persist, such as 'cinema still provide' (should be 'cinemas still provide') and 'Then cinema environment' (should be 'The cinema environment'). These errors are infrequent and do not cause difficulty for the reader. The use of complex structures is generally accurate, and the punctuation is handled well throughout the text.
