Student answer (Band 7.0)

While many people argue that they do not need cinemas these days as they can watch movies on their electronic devices, others opine that they could enjoy the movies properly in movie theatres only. In my opinion, cinemas are necessary because of its social and entertainment benefits.

On the one side of the argumernt, there are many individuals who consider that the cinemas have become useless. The most compelling reason for believing this is that the community members can enjoy all the movies at their home by spending minimal money. Due to the comfortable settings and less cost as compared to theatres, they find it convenient to use their phones for watching new films. Moreover, due to the hectic schedule of people, most of them do not get enough time to watch the complete show in one sitting in cinemas. However, they could watch the videos in their free time while taking breaks if they are using their technological gadgets. Therefore, the benefits of using online plateforms for entertainments has reduced the popularity of cinemas.

Despite the above arguments, I am of the view that the general public should go to theatres for enjoying the movies properly. Indeed, one reason why I take this position is that mobile phones or computers cannot provide the same experience as cinema halls have big screens, excellent sound system, better graphics and enjoyable atmosphere. Due to these reasons, some movies are only released in cinema halls so that audiences could enjoy them completely. For example, 3D movies could be boring at homes while the same film could be quite entertaining id it is watched in cinemas. Furthermore, it is my firm belief that filemas are enjoyed in a better way when ity is watched among huge audience. The emotions of every person sitting in theatre could be felt and people may find it more realistic experience. Therefore, watching movies in film theatres provide unique experience to the society members.

In conclusion, although both views are commonly held in the society, I consider that even though cinemas are becoming less popluar in the modern world, they are really important for the best experience of any video. As visual and sound effects and the ambience in movie theatre leads to full enjoyment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the comparison between the convenience of home viewing and the immersive experience of a cinema. However, some points could be extended further; for instance, the argument regarding the 'social' aspect of cinema could be supported with more specific examples beyond just 'emotions'. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main arguments. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one side of the argument', 'Moreover', 'Despite the above arguments', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the text. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing is mostly clear, though there are minor instances where the connection between sentences could be tighter to improve the overall progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The range of vocabulary is sufficient for the task, allowing for some flexibility and precision. You use terms like 'compelling reason', 'technological gadgets', and 'ambience' effectively. However, there are some spelling errors ('argumernt', 'plateforms', 'popluar', 'filemas') and minor word choice issues ('society members' instead of 'cinema-goers'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and expanding your use of collocations related to the topic of entertainment.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You successfully use complex sentences with 'although', 'because', and 'while'. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('cinemas are necessary because of its social...' should be 'their social...') and minor punctuation or article errors ('the theatres' vs 'theatres'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, aim for greater accuracy in complex structures and ensure consistent agreement between subjects and pronouns.
