Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the advantages of watching films on mobile devices versus the traditional cinema experience—and clearly states a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally supported, though some points tend to over-generalize or lack depth, such as the brief mentions of specific movie genres. For example, the student writes, 'In my opinion i like to watch movie on on phone because it gives me great comfort and flexibility,' which clearly establishes the writer's position. The arguments regarding cost-effectiveness and convenience are appropriately extended with examples like pausing the film and traveling. However, further elaboration on the cinema's immersive environment would have enhanced task fulfillment. Overall, the response meets the core requirements of the prompt satisfactorily, earning a band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing each view and personal preference. However, the progression is sometimes hindered by mechanical cohesive devices and repetitive structures. For instance, the transition 'To begin with one important reason...' introduces the first supporting point, but transitional links between sentences are occasionally weak or absent. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'Other argue that If we have phone why need go and watch movie on big screen.' Paragraphing is used, but the opening section is fragmented into very short, disjointed sentences. Cohesive errors and faulty referencing place this response firmly in the band 5.0 to 5.5 range, warranting a band 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items with varying degrees of success. Examples of appropriate vocabulary include 'conveniant,' 'flexibility,' and 'high definition.' However, there are numerous lexical and word-choice errors, such as 'cost-effectiveness option' instead of 'cost-effective option,' 'watching movie on cinema having great experience,' and 'beat option' instead of 'best option.' Spelling errors like 'conveniant' and 'tables' (instead of tablets) also occur. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the intended meaning, the noticeable errors and awkward collocations prevent the score from reaching band 6.0. Therefore, a band 5.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors. Examples of structural and agreement errors include 'Many people have different perspective in this topic,' 'Other argue that If we have phone why need go,' and 'For many individual like the experience.' Punctuation and capitalization are frequently neglected, particularly with lowercase 'i' used for the pronoun 'I' and missing apostrophes in contractions like 'now days' (nowadays). There are also missing auxiliary verbs and articles throughout the text. Although the meaning is generally clear despite these errors, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies means the response fits best within the band 5.0 descriptors.
