IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that now we can see films on our phones or tablets there is no need to go to the cinema. Others say that to be fully enjoyed, films need to be seen in a cinema.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, technology is becoming advanced as the time is passing and inventing multiple gadgets such as phones and tablets. After these inventions, some people do think the demand of cinemas has vanished to watch films, while others think opposite to this claim. The subsequent paragraphs will explore both perspectives, with particular emphasis on the reasons behind each view, before presenting my opinion.

On the one hand side, majority of people are holding subscription of various OTT platforms where they can watch countless films, music videos and others entertainment stuff with a tiny amount of money. For instance, Netflix is a website where people can watch movies and other video songs while purchasing a membership which cost between $10 to $20. In addition, they do not have enough time go to cinemas for watching movies when they have affordable source to watch films which are phones and tablets.

On the other hand side, they are still interested to watch films in the cinemas due to the quality of sound and graphics of cinemas. Furthermore, 3D, 4D and 5D films always demand for best condition and environment to enjoy them. For example, People do prefer cinemas to watch movies like Avengers and Spiderman in 3D graphics which provide them experince. Moreover, Mobiles and tablets come with a medium sized screens, where as cinema's screen is multiple times bigger than them. Which is another reason for people to get relax and entertain while watching films there.

My opinion, however, there are satsfied reasons to support both sides, but demand of cinemas will never be ended because they provide us with differ type of fun that we cannot get while watch films on mobiles.

Logical organisation is visible, and cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand side', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand side'. However, some cohesive phrases are awkward or non-standard (e.g., 'On the one hand side', 'On the other hand side'), and referencing and transitions are occasionally mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, ensuring that the progression of the essay remains coherent overall, matching the criteria for Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully using terms like 'subscription', 'OTT platforms', 'blockbuster', and 'graphics'. There are, however, several word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'inventing multiple gadgets', 'tiny amount of money', 'demand of cinemas has vanished', and 'satsfied reasons'. Spelling errors like 'satsfied' and 'experince' also occur. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect a limited control over less common lexical items, keeping the lexical score at a Band 6.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including subordinate clauses introduced by 'where', 'while', and 'because'. However, grammatical errors are frequent throughout the response, such as tense and article usage issues ('the time is passing', 'time go to cinemas', 'price which cost', 'cinema's screen is multiple times bigger than them').
