Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent times due to our developed softwares and technology, We are able to watch any movies or songs from different parts of the world through a single screen which are named as mobile phones, laptops and various other resources.

According to me, watching entertainments both via visiting cinemas and through a personal belongings have both pros and cons.

For example, watching it online does not give the actual feel and impact we experience while watching movies in theatres specially which are more likely to be an action movies or an animated ones which are 3D and preferably watched by people in a theatre screen to gain more realistic experience which you will not be able to feel through a normal screen.

Whereas, the individuals who are introverts prefer watching it in an quite environment with peace since they do not want to personally visit and watch it with lot of unknown people around them feeling uncomfortable. They do not give much thought about the experience a person gets on the the big screen since the only thing they want is a comfortable space and a feel around them to binge watch their favourite movies or an TV show.

The biggest advantage over watching through a small screen over a big is that they can pause or replay the particular scenes or moments if they missed out on any or wish to replay it as many times they want.Whereas, In a cinema theatre you can miss out on certain scenes or part of the movie or a show if you want to use washroom.

I personally like to hang out with my friends and would prefer watching our favourite movies in theatres rather than staring at a screen feeling bored and left out.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that films are better on personal devices and that they need to be seen in a cinema—and provides the writer's own opinion, stating a preference for cinemas with friends. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive in places. For instance, the argument about introverts in the fourth paragraph touches on personal comfort, but the points lack depth and extended support. Furthermore, the introduction is slightly vague, referring generally to 'developed softwares and technology.' While the prompt is adequately covered to meet the requirements of a Band 6, expanding the supporting examples with more specific details would elevate the task response to a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure ideas into paragraphs representing different viewpoints. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by weak cohesive devices and punctuation errors. For example, the transitional phrase 'Whereas, the individuals' lacks proper spacing after the comma, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'The biggest advantage over watching through a small screen over a big is that they can pause.' Paragraphing is used, but some paragraphs are very short, consisting of only a single sentence, which disrupts the logical flow. Cohesive devices are used but can feel mechanical. This performance aligns well with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors, showing basic organizational structure but lacking fluid transitions and polished paragraph management.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts related to media consumption. Attempts are made to use less common items and phrases, such as 'binge watch,' 'introverts,' and 'realistic experience.' However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'developed softwares' (software is uncountable), 'personal belongings' instead of personal devices, and 'an quite environment' (article and adjective mismatch). Spelling is generally accurate, but these lexical inaccuracies restrict the precision of the writing. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the intended meaning, placing this response firmly in the Band 5.5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and article usage, such as missing commas, incorrect capitalization after commas ('technology, We'), and awkward phrasing like 'specially which are more likely to be an action movies.' Additionally, pluralization errors occur, such as 'an action movies' and 'an TV show.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from achieving a Band 6.0, making a Band 5.5 a more accurate reflection of grammatical control.
