Student answer (Band 6.5)

The advancement of technology and streaming websites has sparked a debate between individuals, where some believe that movies can be watched over a mobile device like cell phones and tablets. While others believe, they can have better experience in a theater. In my opinion even though phone and tablets have an advantage to be accessed easily anywhere and saves time. Cinema displays movies with better graphics and real life experience.

On one hand, with mobile devices movies can be accessed easily anywhere saving time. Growing telecommunication industry are potentially making devices to handle better video graphics and sounds by introducing features like amoled screens, surround sound speakers, and higher internet band-width. All this has led to people increasingly watch their favourite show sitting at home or travelling, which is why, they do not feel the need to go to any movie complex. Furthermore, in this face paced busy world robust devices save time. This is to say working individuals who find it difficult to spare time for cinema depend highly on their phones or computers to stream movies, this gives them an advantage to pause a certain movie and resume it back whenever they have timme.

On other hand, cinema provides better visual and sound experience, unlike a phone or tablet. Theaters are equipped with high tech technology like, 3D and 4D which gives realistic effect to the film. For example, I watched a movie named Avatar in 4D cinema, and it felt like i was actually living that moment, not only this it also got me involved emotionally which left me in tears towars the end. Such experiences are unique which cannot be enjoyed on any computer device.

In conclusion, though the easy accessibility of mobile devices make it easier for movies to be watched in any space. Theaters have a greater impact on ours minds making us live every moment as if it real.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the convenience and advancement of watching films on mobile devices versus the superior sensory experience of going to the cinema—and clearly states a personal opinion. The student presents well-developed ideas, supporting the first view with points about technological advancements like AMOLED screens and time-saving benefits for busy individuals, and the second view with personal experience watching 'Avatar' in 4D. The position is maintained clearly throughout the essay, fulfilling the requirements for Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, separate body paragraphs for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'On one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'On other hand' (though missing an article). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. However, there are minor issues with referencing and punctuation, such as sentence fragments (e.g., 'While others believe, they can have better experience in a theater'), which prevent the essay from achieving a higher band in this criterion. Overall progression is clear throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow for some flexibility and precision, attempting less common items such as 'advancement of technology', 'telecommunication industry', 'amoled screens', and 'surround sound speakers'. There are occasional word choice and spelling errors, such as 'face paced' instead of 'fast-paced', 'timme', and 'towars', but these do not impede communication. The lexical control is generally adequate for the task, successfully conveying the intended meanings regarding technology and cinema experiences.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as sentence boundary issues ('In my opinion even though phone and tablets have an advantage... Cinema displays...'), missing articles ('on other hand', 'ours minds'), and minor punctuation slips. Despite these errors, the complex structures are largely understandable and communication is not impeded. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
