Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some argue that movies is better enjoyed in cinema , while others believe that our phones and tablets can be used to watch movies instead of visiting the cinema. The purpose of this essay is to discuss both points of view and give my own opinion.
On one hand watching a movie in a cinema is more fun and exciting because immediately a movie is released the first place is being displayed is the cinema as a result the target audience get to watch the movies immediately. They are not kept in suspense and are not worried about spoilers. They enjoy the thrill of the new movie to fullest. Additionally cinematic films is entertaining to watch especially when you go to the cinema with your group of friends. The cinema usually serves some refreshments like popcorn and drinks to the audience and this makes it even more entertaining to the audience.
on the other hand going to cinema has it's own downside. It can be rigorous and expensive. one has to purchase a movie ticket on time or risk the chances of the tickets being sold out . And this is not applicable when watching the movie with you gadgets. Also you get to watch the film at the comfort of your home at your own convinence using your phone or tablets. You are in absolute control of when and how you watch the movie; rewind or replay a particular scene severally whenever you wish to and this is not possible if the movie is being shown in a cinema.
personally i believe that watching movies with your gadgets is more preferable than watching in a cinema because it saves money and it's less rigorous. Although it can be more entertaining to watch in a cinema . Nevertheless i can as well mimic the cinema in my room by setting up a projector and connecting the projector to my laptop while the movie plays through a loud speaker without going through the stress of purchasing a ticket to visit the cinema.
In conclusion watching a movie in a cinema can also be as entertaining as watching it with your devices, as some persons who are introverts like myself might not even love to be in the midst of people when watching a movie and would love to be in their own space rather.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the view that films are best enjoyed in a cinema and the view that phones and tablets are sufficient, while also presenting a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as avoiding spoilers at the cinema, the social aspect of sharing refreshments like popcorn, and the convenience of controlling playback at home. However, some arguments lack deeper extension and tend to over-generalise slightly, particularly in the discussion on avoiding the stress of purchasing tickets. Overall, the task is fully engaged with, and the student establishes a coherent stance throughout, placing this response comfortably at Band 6.5 to 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organization. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from an introduction to the benefits of cinemas, the drawbacks of cinemas, the personal opinion, and a concluding thought that ties back to personal preference. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On one hand', 'Additionally', 'on the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, there are some minor mechanical issues with cohesion and referencing, and paragraphing could be tighter. Additionally, punctuation errors like lowercase letters at the start of sentences ('on the other hand') slightly disrupt the flow. These features align with the Band 6 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and phrasings such as 'target audience', 'kept in suspense', 'rigorous', and 'convinence'. There are, however, several lexical and spelling errors that prevent a higher band, including spelling mistakes like 'convinence' instead of 'convenience', missing capital letters, and slight oddities in word collocation such as 'watching the movie with you gadgets' instead of 'your gadgets'. Despite these lapses, communication is never impeded, making this a solid Band 6 performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with subordinating conjunctions ('Although it can be more entertaining...', 'because it saves money...'). There are frequent errors in punctuation and capitalization, such as missing periods or commas, starting sentences with lowercase letters ('on the other hand', 'personally i believe'), and subject-verb agreement slips like 'cinematic films is entertaining' and 'movies is better'. While these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede communication. This balance of mixed structures and persistent mechanical errors fits the Band 6 criteria.
