Student answer (Band 5.5)
A number of people say that, there is no necessity to visit theater to watch movies because now they can watch it on mobiles and I-pads. However, other think that for full enjoyment, they need to watch it in cinema. Both views have their own merits. This essay will discuss both the perspectives before explaining my own opinion.
Firstly, watching films on phones is most convenient way to enjoy. In simple words, people can watch movie at anytime and anywhere according to their leisure time. For example, many people have very tight schedule they usually prefer to watch movies at home. In addition, it also provide comfortness and some privacy to enjoy their free time. To simplify, certain individuals are very comfortable in their home such as in bed room or in living room, without any burden of someone who are siting beside them.
On the other hand, many people prefer to visit cinema for watching movies because they want to experience movie in real cinematic exposure. Such as with good sound quality, display quality and in a big screen. To illustrate, mostly youngsters prefer theatre as they have this type of interest. Moreover, people who want to do day-out with their family and people who are work from home are usually prefer to visit cinema as they want to spend some time outside of their house to enjoy time.
In conclusion, both type of people have their own benefits. In my views, I always try to go cinema to watch movie as I am also a cinephile.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the convenience of watching films on mobile devices and the superior sensory experience of cinemas, while also providing a clear personal opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the ideas lack sufficient depth and extension. For instance, the discussion on mobile viewing mentions busy schedules and comfort, but these points are somewhat repetitive and remain at a general level rather than being fully explored with compelling explanations or specific real-world examples. Similarly, the cinema paragraph touches on sound, screens, and social outings, but stays on the surface. Because all parts of the task are addressed and a position is clear, the response aligns best with Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is divided into four standard paragraphs, showing a clear overall structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs discussing opposite views, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'Firstly,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion.' However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, expressions like 'To simplify,' and 'To illustrate,' are used awkwardly and do not logically fit the sentences that follow. Paragraphing is present and appropriate for the length, but the logical transitions between sentences can feel abrupt, leading to a score of 6.0 under the coherence and cohesion descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday ideas related to entertainment and lifestyle. There are attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'cinephile' and 'cinematic exposure,' but these are occasionally accompanied by word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'provide comfortness' instead of 'provide comfort' or 'a big screen' instead of 'the big screen'. Non-existent words like 'comfortness' and awkward phrasing ('work from home are usually prefer') point towards Band 5, but because the vocabulary is minimally adequate and communication is not severely hindered, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('other think' instead of 'others think', 'people who are work from home are usually prefer'), missing articles ('visit theater', 'in cinema'), and awkward phrasing ('watching films on phones is most convenient way'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur regularly throughout the text, preventing the essay from achieving a Band 6. Therefore, the grammatical profile aligns most closely with Band 5.
