IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that now we can see films on our phones or tablets there is no need to go to the cinema. Others say that to be fully enjoyed, films need to be seen in a cinema.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In term of watching films, some folks believe that the cinema is the best place to get thriller experinece, while others think that smart technologies are the best to see movies. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my opinion.

On the one hand, due to advancement in technology, nowadays doubly sound system and 3D watching have been used in most of the theatres. Watching action movies with these the smarter technologies anyone can get thriller experince and make that moment memorable. For example, from last several years, the revenue of entertainmnet industry has been increasing, as more number of people prefer to watch movies in theatres beacuse of thrilling experince.

On the other hand, other opine that these days most of the movies and webseries are available at a touch. There is need to spend money and time to the travelling towards theatres. Anyone can spend their leisure time by watching their favourite movies from their comfort place. For instance, several online streaming platforms make, watching movie from your home, more enjoyable. Moreover, there is no need to book a ticket and alter your daily routine as per the movie show time.

In my opinion, if indiviauls prefer to watch movie in theatres, there are more likely to create new jobs in the entertainmnet industry as well as icons from cinema industry would get more frame and motivate youngsters. Hence, watching movies in theatres is preferable option.

To recapitualte, some think that to get thriller experince, cinema would be best, whereas smartphones and tablets are the best option to to watch movies by sitting at comfortable place.

However, paragraphing could be better managed, as the opinion and conclusion are separated into distinct, very short paragraphs, and some logical progression feels slightly mechanical. Referencing and cohesive devices are generally functional, though occasional abrupt shifts occur.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common collocations and topic-related terms like 'entertainment industry', 'streaming platforms', and 'technological advancements'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'experinece' instead of experience, 'doubly sound system' instead of Dolby sound system, 'frame' instead of fame, and 'recapitualte' instead of recapitulate. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not impeded, and the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as conditional and prepositional structures like 'due to advancement in technology, nowadays...' and 'if individuals prefer to watch movie in theatres...'. There are several grammatical and mechanical errors present, including missing articles ('watch movie', 'in theatres'), incorrect prepositions ('from last several years', 'towards theatres'), and subject-verb agreement issues. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede overall communication, and the basic meaning remains clear throughout.
