IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that now we can see films on our phones or tablets there is no need to go to the cinema. Others say that to be fully enjoyed, films need to be seen in a cinema.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, many people prefer watching films on phones or tablets, while others still go out to watch them at the cinema. In my opinion, watching movies at the cinema is much more enjoyable option because of the good-quality sound system, and a much bigger screen.

In recent times, the advancement in technology has enabled people to watch newly released movies on their phones or tablets easily. On the other hand cinema tickets are usually expensive and not many people can afford them. Therefore, they prefer to watch movies on their phones. The other reason is many people are busy with their work and personal responsibilities and cannot spare time to go to cinema. For instance, applications like Netflix and Amazone prime have made watching newly released movies quite accessible because you can download it any time and watch it easily in your free time. These applications come at cheap subscriptions for the whole year while cinema tickets are expensive and are used once.

In contrast to this, In my opinion watching movies at the cinema is a better option because it gives you a break from the monotonous routine. You can always have great a time with friends and family at the cinema. In addition to that watching movie on a big screen and top-quality sound gives a better experience compared to watching it at home with distractions. For instance, IMAXX cinemas are quite popular nowdays because of their 3D cinema experience which make everything seems real. Many people are now requesting to show old movies like Interstellar on IMAXX to have a fantastic experience.

In conlusion, some people like to watch movies on phone or tablet because of the expensive movie tickets and their busy schedules.

While others like to go to the cinema for a better experience, and in my opinion this is always a better option because it lets you to have an entertaining outing with friends and family.
