Student answer (Band 6.5)
Technology has changed a lot recently, the way people used to do their chores, spend their leisure time and travel, everything is different now. Many individuals prefer watching movies at home on their ipads or tablets instead of going to cinemas. However, others prefer theatres more. Both the views along with my opinion will be discussed below.
To begin with, people can stream most of the latest movies at their own comfort on the bed or couch. There are so many platform such as netflix, crave, amazon prime etc which they have subscribed to. Thus, they feel there is no need to spend money again on buying tickets and watching the movie in theatre which is already on the streaming platforms. Additionally, if people want to skip any particular scene in a film, they have an option to fast forward it which they never get in theatres. For instance, there are some movies which has obscene and abusive scenes which are not suitable for children, these can be easily skipped if watching it at home.
On the other side, watching movies in cinemas has its own advantages. People mostly go to cimemas for experience as in cinema sitting with so many strangers and watching the same movie for 2-3 hours leaves them the experience which they could never get after watching the same movie at home. Moreover, there are many movies which are in 3D and 4D print and could only be watched in cinemas. The high quality picture print, large screen, audio effect and the taste of popcorns which people can get in theatres can never compete with movies at home. Also, people get to spend time with their family when they go out in theatres and watch movies. At home it's just a movie but in cinema it become a family outing.
In conclusion, although watching movies at home is comfortable but the experience which people get after watching a movie in theatre is incomprehensible. Thus I belive watching movie in theatres is a much better option.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The candidate addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—watching films on devices at home versus going to the cinema—and clearly states a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning streaming platforms like Netflix and the ability to skip obscene scenes, as well as the unique sensory experience of cinemas including 3D prints, large screens, and popcorn. The position is maintained clearly throughout the response. Although some arguments could be explored in even greater depth, the overall task fulfilment comfortably meets the criteria for Band 7, as all components of the prompt are thoroughly covered with a clear stance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is logically organised with a clear introduction, separate body paragraphs discussing each opposing view, and a distinct concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments, such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'On the other side'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the home-viewing advantages from the cinema benefits. Although referencing is occasionally slightly loose, such as 'which is already on the streaming platforms', the overall progression of ideas is clear and logical throughout the essay, demonstrating the control expected at Band 7.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task. Less common lexical items are attempted, including 'obscene', 'incomprehensible', and streaming services like 'netflix' and 'amazon prime'. However, there are some imprecise word choices and minor collocation issues, such as 'at their own comfort on the bed' instead of 'in the comfort of their bed', and '3D and 4D print' instead of '3D and 4D formats'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly in the Band 6 territory.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. The candidate successfully employs relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'There are so many platform such as netflix... which they have subscribed to' and 'if people want to skip any particular scene'. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout, including a comma splice in the opening sentence ('Technology has changed a lot recently, the way...'), subject-verb agreement issues ('There are so many platform'), and missing articles ('watching movie in theatres'). These errors occur frequently but rarely impede overall communication, which aligns well with the descriptors for Band 6.
