Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the task only minimally, as it fails to reach the required minimum word count of 250 words, stopping at only 211 words. While the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding watching films on mobile devices versus going to the cinema and provides a brief personal opinion, the ideas are heavily restricted in scope and remain under-developed. Points such as radiation and interruptions are mentioned tangentially without sufficient explanation or support. To improve, the writer must ensure the full length requirement is met and develop each main argument with detailed explanations, clear examples, and a more structured discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently across the text. The response lacks clear paragraphing, grouping multiple disjointed thoughts together rather than organizing them logically into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a distinct lack of appropriate cohesive devices, and transitions between ideas are abrupt, such as jumping from screen sizes to family viewing and then to phone interruptions. Referencing and progression are difficult to follow. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to group related ideas into distinct paragraphs, use a logical sequence of arguments, and employ a variety of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, utilizing everyday terms such as "small screen," "busy life," and "watch the films." There are notable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, including phrases like "huge crowed is there" and "momre thing," which reflect limited control over lexical features. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic points, but it is insufficient to discuss the topic with precision or variety. To improve, the writer should incorporate a wider selection of less common vocabulary and idiomatic phrases related to entertainment and lifestyle, while ensuring correct spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writer demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences that are often fragmented or incorrectly punctuated, such as missing capitalizations and run-on phrasing like "tablets.it was good for who are with busy life." Errors in grammar, verb forms, and articles are frequent throughout the text, including instances such as "they saving time also" and "possiable is week ends," which can distort meaning and strain the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand the variety of grammatical structures used, attempt complex sentences with accurate control, and pay closer attention to basic punctuation, verb tenses, and sentence boundaries.
