Student answer (Band 5.5)

A group of people think that movie can be seen on tablets rather than in cinema, while others say that theater is best place to watch a movie. Both viewpoints will be discussed in up coming paragraph before reaching any conclusion.

To begin with, there are numerous reasons why people think that waching movie on cell phone is better instead of going to cinema. Firstly, it saves a travel cost and time because if they go outside, they spend money on tickets and foods. They have to money on travel as sometimes cinema is far away from their home and they don't have car. Due to this, they need to spend money on cab. Secondly, if people watch a movie at the home, they can pay attention on their children. For example, I have a small kid, its difficult for me and my family to travel with child and watch a film in cinema. So, that's why its convient for people or couple who watch movies at home. Last but not least, if we watch a movie in cinema we have to go on particular time, but at home we watch it any time.

On the other hand, some people argue that should watch movie in cinema. First and foremost reason is that cinema provides a lot of facilities, such as wonderful sound systems, big screen, which makes a movie more interesting and exciting. Moreover, watching movie in cinmea is social activity. As a result, people get chance to spend quality time with their family member as well as their agemates.

In conclusion, from my perspective, people should watch a movie at thier home rather than watching in cinema, because it is more benefical to save their time and money.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on where films are best watched and clearly stating a personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the first body paragraph provides some relevant points regarding cost and convenience, such as saving travel expenses and managing childcare like 'I have a small kid, its difficult for me and my family to travel', but these ideas remain somewhat under-developed rather than fully extended. The position is nevertheless clear throughout the essay, satisfying the core requirements of this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the contrasting viewpoints. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, pointing towards the characteristics of a half-band achievement where organization is clear overall, but some transitions and pronouns lack the seamless flexibility required for the next level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main ideas. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items, such as 'social activity' and 'facilities', but these are accompanied by noticeable word choice and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'waching', 'cinmea', 'thier', and 'benefical'. Collocations are sometimes awkward, for example saying 'pay attention on their children' instead of 'pay attention to' or 'look after'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical range and accuracy to this band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like 'Both viewpoints will be discussed in up coming paragraph before reaching any conclusion.' There are several errors in grammar and punctuation present throughout the text, including missing articles ('watch movie in cinema'), subject-verb agreement issues ('people think that waching movie... is better'), and preposition errors ('at the home' instead of 'at home'). While these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended meaning despite the grammatical slips.
