Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today's evolving world, films can be watched easily on smartphones and tablets, which as led some people believe that films can only be fully enjoyed when they are watched on a large cinema screem. In this essy, I will discuss both the perspectives before presenting my own view.
Out of all the arguments, one of the main reasons of why many people watch films on their phones and tablets because it is convenient and flexible. That is to say, people can watch a film whenever and whereever they wan without having to travel to a cinema. Moreover, many streaming services provide a wide range of films at lower cost, which is particularly useful for people who have busy schedules. For instance, a person who works houng hours can watch a new release movie on their tablet while travelling or relax at home after work. In addition, people can pause the film, adjust the volume and watch in short sessions, making this option more suitable for modern lifestyles.
On the other hand, many individuals believe that watching a film in cinema offers an experience that is difficult to reproduce at home. One of the significant advantages is the large screen and powerful sound system, which make viewers feel more involved in the story. Furthermore, cinema provide distraction free environment because people are less likely to receive phones call, check social media or do household chore while watching a film. For example, action and scientific movies are often enjoyable on a large screen with high quality sound and extraordinary video quality. Besides that, going to the cinema can be a social activity that people spend quality time with friends and family members.
In conclusion, although cinema provide a more impressive and enjoyable experience, I strongly believe that smartphones and tablets offer greater convenience because people can watch a movie at any time, rewind and forward movie with their requirements.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on where films are best enjoyed and presenting a clear personal position throughout. Main ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the convenience for busy individuals and the immersive atmosphere of a cinema. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise certain points, such as the claim that people are less likely to check social media in a cinema, which keeps the response at this level. To reach a higher band, the ideas could be developed with even greater depth and nuance, avoiding minor generalisations and providing more thoroughly fleshed-out arguments for both perspectives.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently sequenced, and each paragraph has a clear central topic, moving smoothly from the introduction to the body paragraphs discussing mobile viewing and cinema viewing, and finally to a well-stated conclusion. Cohesive devices are used flexibly, such as "On the other hand" and "In addition", though referencing and paragraph transitions occasionally feel slightly formulaic. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, the writer could employ more sophisticated and subtle linking devices rather than relying on standard transition markers, ensuring that the flow between sentences is entirely seamless and unobtrusive.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "convenient and flexible", "distraction free environment", and "social activity". However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score, such as "screem" instead of screen, "essy" instead of essay, "houng hours" instead of long hours, and "scientific movies" instead of sci-fi or science fiction movies. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they reflect the threshold of this band. To improve, the writer should focus on precise lexical choices, correct word forms, and careful proofreading to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present throughout the text, including article omissions and verb agreement issues, such as "which as led some people believe" instead of "which has led some people to believe", "cinema provide" instead of cinemas provide, and "rewind and forward movie" instead of rewinding and forwarding movies. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication. To move to the next level, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and maintain tighter control over prepositions, verb patterns, and plural agreements.
