Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent times, some people like to watch movies on their phones or tablets and saying that there is no requirement to go to the cinema. Whereas fellow human beings believe if you want to do full enjoyment then must watch films in cineplex. On my perspective, it is a personal choice of human beings.

On the one hand, certain individuals prefer to see picture on their electronic devices. It is also a good choice but it can not give completely satisfaction as theaters. Moreover, it has small screen and blurry vision. For example, in 2024, one of the best movie released in month of october named "Pushpa" and I can not go because of some personal reason. That is why, I watched it on my phone. Although, the voice and clarity are not upstanding. I was an extremely disappointed with it. Futhermore, I felt bad as Allu Arjun is my favourite hero.

On the other hand, several persons choose movie theater rather than gadgets. It is wholey advantageous and worth it. Fleapit have big scree, special sound system, cafes and food stalls etcetera. For instance, last year, my husband and I went to movie house to watch "Dhurandhar" and we enjoyed a lot over there. We were three couples and we booked golden seats with food and drinks. We not only enjoyed the movie, but also the ambience there.

In conclusion, sometimes you have to offer some relaxing time to yourself and you must to do whatever you like.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on cinema versus mobile viewing and provides a personal opinion, earning credit for covering all parts of the task. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the opinion is introduced rather simplistically at the end of the introduction with 'it is a personal choice of human beings,' and the conclusion merely states that 'you must to do whatever you like' without fully synthesising the arguments. Main points, such as the personal anecdote about missing the film 'Pushpa' or visiting the theatre with husband and friends, are presented with basic support rather than being extended into deeper discussions on modern media consumption. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to provide more fully elaborated arguments with stronger, more universal examples rather than overly conversational anecdotes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, the two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a brief conclusion. There is a coherent overall arrangement following standard essay conventions. Cohesive devices are used to signal shifts in perspective, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand,' which helps the reader navigate the different viewpoints. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing can be imprecise, as seen in phrases like 'It is wholey advantageous' where the pronoun reference is slightly unclear. Additionally, the progression within paragraphs occasionally feels abrupt due to disjointed sentences, such as moving directly from screen sizes to a specific movie release in 2024. To improve cohesion further, the writer should integrate ideas more smoothly and ensure referencing links elements clearly across sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'cineplex,' 'ambience,' and 'fleapit,' but these are often marked by noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. For example, 'do full enjoyment' is an unnatural collocation, 'wholey' contains a spelling error, and terms like 'favourite hero' lean toward informal registers. There are also recurring word-choice inaccuracies, such as using 'picture' instead of 'pictures' or 'films,' and 'voice' instead of 'sound quality.' While communication is generally maintained despite these flaws, the restricted range and frequent lexical slips prevent the writing from achieving a more precise and flexible command of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are noticeable errors in verb forms, tenses, and agreements throughout the text. Examples include 'some people like to watch... and saying that,' 'can not give completely satisfaction' instead of 'complete satisfaction,' and 'I was an extremely disappointed with it.' Preposition and article errors are also present, such as 'in month of october' and 'went to movie house.' Furthermore, modal verb structures contain errors, as seen in 'you must to do whatever you like.' These frequent grammatical slips and inaccuracies can cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a need for better control over basic sentence mechanics and complex clauses.
