Student answer (Band 6.0)

Movies have become more interesting things for enjoyment in an individual's life. While some people argue that there is no need to go to the theater because it is accessible through cellphones or tablets, others believe that it is fully enjoyable to see films in a cinema. This essay will explore both perspectives along with valid reasons in the ensuing paragraphs before presenting my opinion.

On the one hand, supporters of the former view argue that there is no need to go to the cinema hall to see a movie because it is available on a cellphone. The paramount reason for this is that it is very convenient. Moreover, it does not require going outside and spending excessive money. For instance, most of the old-aged people prefer to watch movies on their mobile phones rather than going outside. Consequently, they may not get disturbed and do not face any health-related issues.

On the other hand, some people may believe that movies need to be watched in a cinema hall. This is mainly because people have to feel a real sound system, which might not be possible at home. For example, most youngsters would like to prefer a big screen for a better experience of various kinds of action movies. As a result, they feel energetic and relieve stress by going out of their home.

From my perspective, it is better to see movies on an individual's electronic device. This is due to the fact that it gives full privacy, and along with that, it does not require excessive time to reach a specific location for a movie.

In conclusion, although it is true that the cinema hall can give a better real-time experience, it is also a fact that showing on a mobile phone is very convenient, especially for older ones. Therefore, I believe that movies should be watched on an individual's mobile phone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and gives a clear personal position: you favour watching films on a personal device, while acknowledging the cinema’s sound and large-screen experience. The examples about older people and young people help make the discussion relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally: convenience and privacy are mentioned, but the cinema argument is mainly limited to sound and screen size, and the claim that going out helps people “relieve stress” is not explained. The opening also promises “valid reasons” without specifying them. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each advantage and support your opinion with a more specific example or comparison. The 17 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for each view, a paragraph stating your opinion, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger control. However, the transitions can feel formulaic, and the opinion paragraph repeats the convenience point rather than developing the discussion further. Some references are also broad, such as “the former view” and “it,” which can make the exact idea less immediate. Use more varied links between claims and examples, and make each paragraph advance a distinct point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “convenient,” “privacy,” “sound system,” and “better experience,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “paramount reason” and “ensuing paragraphs.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, which limits the accuracy and flexibility of the vocabulary: “more interesting things for enjoyment,” “feel a real sound system,” and “would like to prefer” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Repetition of “movies,” “cinema hall,” and “excessive” also narrows the range. Aim for common, precise collocations rather than formal-sounding phrases, and vary references to films and viewing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes both simple sentences and more complex forms, such as the opening contrast beginning “While some people argue…” and the concession in the conclusion beginning “although it is true…”. Most sentences communicate their meaning, and errors do not generally prevent understanding. Some grammatical problems remain, however. In “it is fully enjoyable to see films in a cinema,” the construction is awkward, while “most youngsters would like to prefer” combines two incompatible patterns. The sentence “Consequently, they may not get disturbed and do not face…” also shifts from “may not” to “do not,” weakening parallel structure. Practise accurate verb patterns and keep coordinated clauses grammatically consistent; this will make your varied sentence forms more controlled.
