Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's era, people have a controversial debate on different views, such as some people prefer watching movies only in theatres, while some believe in watching on phones or tablets.

Let's discuss both statements.

To begin with, it is true that today's generation prefers to watch all movies in theatres because they have a lot of facilities. The technology is so up-to-date that there are multiple options such as seating for 3D screens, general screens, IMAX screens, and 4DX screens. Moreover, the movies on big screens and Dolby sound make the experience even better. The expectations, some theaters even provide recliner seating and snack service to the seats. The tickets are over the moon for the movies; nonetheless, the experience is worth the cost of spending.

On the flip side of the coin, it is beyond doubt that some people have changed their preferences for watching movies on phones or tablets. Considering the reality of inflation everywhere, it is worthless to spend money on some things. For instance, watching movies on tablets will not give a real cinema experience, but it saves a significant amount of money, which can alternatively be used for necessary things. Additionally, it is not necessary to watch every movie in the cinema; some are good to watch with family at home together, which will fulfill both family time and movie time.

After discussing both sides of the coin, I opine that watching movies in the cinema for the younger generation is exciting, but it should be limited, and it is also important to stay with family at home and watch together. People should understand how much money should be spend in cinema for some movies and the rest can even be enjoyed in tablets.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a personal position: cinemas offer a more immersive experience, while watching at home can save money and suit family time. The examples of IMAX, 4DX, Dolby sound and recliner seating make the cinema argument relevant, and your conclusion returns to the balance you favour. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The cinema paragraph focuses mainly on facilities, while the home-viewing paragraph gives a clearer reason—cost—but could explain more fully when or why a smaller screen is sufficient. Your opinion that cinema visits should be limited is present, but its basis could be stated more clearly. Develop each main point with a specific explanation or example to make the response more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. The progression from cinema advantages to the affordability and convenience of home viewing is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “On the flip side,” and “After discussing both sides” help signal this structure, and the paragraphs each have a recognisable focus. To make the organisation more flexible and less formulaic, use fewer stock transitions and connect ideas through their meaning. For example, the move from cinema facilities to ticket prices could be made more explicit. The phrase “the expectations” is also unclear as a reference, interrupting the flow before the point about recliner seating and snack service.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “IMAX screens,” “Dolby sound,” “recliner seating,” “inflation,” and “significant amount of money.” These terms help communicate the contrast between a cinema visit and watching at home. You also attempt more expressive phrases such as “over the moon” and “flip side of the coin,” but some choices are imprecise or unnatural in context: “the tickets are over the moon” does not clearly express that they are expensive, and “the expectations” is unclear. “Worthless to spend money” is also too absolute for the intended point. Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than idioms, and vary repeated words such as “movies” and “watching” with suitable alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “which,” and most of the meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors are present, however. In “how much money should be spend,” the passive form should be “should be spent”; “some theaters even provide recliner seating and snack service to the seats” has an unclear sentence structure; and “watching movies in the cinema for the younger generation is exciting” would be clearer with a more controlled subject construction. There are also issues with articles and number, such as “in cinema” where “in the cinema” is needed. Review passive verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use complex clauses.
