Student answer (Band 5.5)

Due to the advancement of technology, distinct devices are used to do works and also help these devices to enjoy free time. it is considered by few people that these digital devices are better for them to watch movies instead of going theatre, but others believe that cinemas are much better for full enjoy and fun. Phones or tabs can be helpful for individuals because these are free, time saving and on the other hand, cinemas are significant as spend time with friends, a lot of fun and enjoyment in busy life. I will discuss both sides in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begins with, the important reason to watch movies on electronic devices is time saving. To explicate it. Most of people think that it is wastage of time to watch movies in theatres because they need enough time for watching movies and also they need to buy tickets. They think that it is not worth for them to spend their precious time and money on films. Moreover, some people do not like crowdy places like they feel uncomfortable these kind of areas. As a result, It is a good idea for them to watch movies on laptop, phones or tabs whenever they want. Otherwise, they need a special time to watch films in their busy lives.

However, the main cause why others like to go to cinemas for watching movies is spending time with friends. To explain it, nowadays all are busy in their lives and they do not have time for anyone. They can spend some of their time with their family while eating food, taking tea but they are unable to give time to their close friends. So, this is a good idea for them to watch movies in cinema because with this they can spend their time with their loved ones. Also, due to busy schedule, they can not go outside so this is a helpful way for them to do some outing with their friends and can do a lot of fun.

To conclude, although watching movies at home by using electronic devices like phones or tabs are beneficial for time and money saving, going to cinema is also a good side because people can spend their time with their siblings and can a enjoy life. In my opinion, both sides are good.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both views: watching films on devices is presented as convenient and less costly, while cinemas are linked to socialising with friends and family. Your conclusion also gives an opinion, but “both sides are good” does not clearly explain which option you personally prefer or under what circumstances. Some supporting points are relevant but remain general. For example, you say people save time by watching at home, but do not illustrate how this works or compare it with the cinema experience. The discussion of cinema focuses mainly on spending time with others, rather than explaining what makes films more enjoyable there, such as the large screen or sound. Develop these points and make your own position more definite.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The reader can generally follow the progression, and signposts such as “To begins with,” “However,” and “To conclude” indicate the stages of the argument. However, some linking is mechanical or unclear. “To explicate it” and “To explain it” repeat the same function, while “Otherwise” does not clearly connect the ideas about watching at home and needing a special time. Some references are also vague, as in “with this” and “these kind of areas.” Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each supporting sentence more explicitly to the main point of its paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “electronic devices,” “precious time,” “crowdy places,” and “busy schedule.” There are also attempts to vary expression, for example “time saving” and “spend time with their loved ones.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning less natural. Phrases such as “do works,” “full enjoy and fun,” and “a good side” do not express the intended ideas idiomatically. The repeated use of “time,” “good,” and “fun” also limits precision. Build a more reliable range of natural phrases for convenience, cost, socialising, and the cinema experience, and check how new vocabulary combines with other words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “although.” This gives the response some structural variety, but complex sentences are often faulty and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “To begins with” has an incorrect verb form, and “they can spend their time … and can a enjoy life” has an incomplete or misplaced structure. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “it is considered by few people” and “To explicate it.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including the lowercase “it” after a full stop. Practise accurate clause construction and proofread each sentence for verb forms, articles, and punctuation.
