Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate about whether films should be watched at home on our phones and tablets, while others consider that watching movies in the cinema can be more enjoyable. However, both perspectives have their own merits, which will be discussed further.
To begin with, there are several merits to watching movies at home on mobile phones. First and foremost, it saves people's precious time and provides flexibility. Although an increasing number of individuals prefer to watch movies at the cinema, the trend has changed largely due to the high cost of tickets. This is mainly because it is an effective way to utilize some quality time with family and friends by planning to watch movies at home. It can either make their bonding stronger or allow them to share their day's happenings with each other.
On the other hand, the merits of watching movies in a cinema cannot be overlooked. In today's world, people consider going to the cinema to watch their favourite movie considered as fashion and part of their daily life. As a result, despite having a large number of tickets, they think watching a movie in a cinema hall allows them to watch everything on a bigger screen that is not possible on a cell phone. In addition, a few people just prefer to go to the theatre, just to show off their lifestyle in front of other people and maintain their status in society.
In conclusion, having discussed both sides' viewpoints, I conclude that the merits are more significant than the demerits. Because watching a movie at home provides a sense of security and makes bonds strong.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both sides and give a preference for watching at home, so the main parts of the prompt are present. The home-viewing points about saving time, avoiding ticket costs and spending time with family are relevant, but the links between them are not always clear or fully explained. The cinema paragraph identifies the larger screen as an advantage, yet the claim that people go mainly to show off their lifestyle is broad and would benefit from a more convincing explanation or example. Your conclusion states that home viewing is preferable, but “the merits are more significant than the demerits” does not clearly compare the two views. Develop the cinema experience and make your final position more explicit and consistent.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. However, some connections between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For example, the sentence beginning “Although an increasing number…” shifts from a trend to ticket costs without making the relationship precise, and “This is mainly because” does not clearly refer to the point before it. The cinema paragraph also contains a long, crowded sentence, while the conclusion’s opening claim is not smoothly connected to its reason. Use clearer references and build each paragraph around a more direct sequence of claim, explanation and example.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “flexibility,” “quality time,” “bigger screen” and “status in society,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “cannot be overlooked” and “precious time.” Some choices are imprecise or repetitive, however: “merits” appears several times, “having a large number of tickets” does not express the intended point clearly, and “consider going to the cinema…considered as fashion” is awkwardly phrased. “Share their day’s happenings” is understandable but not a natural collocation. Aim for more precise expressions and vary repeated words, while checking that formal phrases sound natural in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession clause beginning “Although” and a relative clause in “a bigger screen that is not possible on a cell phone.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and errors do not generally prevent understanding. Some grammatical problems remain: “consider going…considered as fashion” repeats the verb structure incorrectly, and “Because watching a movie at home…” is a sentence fragment after the conclusion’s preceding sentence. The sentence beginning “In today’s world” also has a confusing construction, and the missing space after “cell phone.” disrupts punctuation. To strengthen control, check that each sentence has a complete main clause and review verb patterns and punctuation in longer sentences.
