Student answer (Band 6.5)

With the increasing utilization of telephones or tablets, people prefer to watch movies on these devices instead of going to cinema halls. However, others argue that people should go to theatres in order to fully enjoy the movie. This essay will discuss both these views before presenting my ow opinion.

The key reason for watching films on phones or tablets is the convenience. As these devices give flexibility to the viewer to watch at their own pace. They provide options to rewind, pause and adjust volume and brightness as per their choice. Additionally, there are several platforms like Netflix, Amazon and so on which offer different genres to choose from with a fraction of money spent on movie tickets. Thus, people get a broader option along with flexibility to enjoy their movie time.

Conversely, cinemas offer a unique experience for watching a movie on a significantly huge scene with professional sound systems. Different sound effects and exceptional screening help individuals to disconnect from the outer world and enjoy their present time. Moreover, people can spend quality time with friends and family members while enjoying the recently released movies.

From my perspective, people should adopt a balanced approach to enjoy movies. This is due to the fact that if the public avoids going to cinemas then this culture will be eliminated in the near future. By watching movies in cinemas once in a couple of months, one can help in maintaining a balance between watching a movie on phones and in a professional setting.

In conclusion, although watching movies on portable devices gives the privilege to watch them with flexibility, cinema halls do provide a unique experience which they are built for. In my opinion, people must maintain a balance for enjoying movie time on their personal devices and in theatres.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and give a clear personal position: you support a “balanced approach,” explaining that portable devices are convenient while cinemas offer a distinctive viewing experience. The points about pausing or rewinding, streaming choices, sound systems, and spending time with family are relevant. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully developed. For example, the claim that cinema culture “will be eliminated” if people avoid theatres is not explained or supported, and the benefits of watching at home could be compared more directly with the cinema experience. To strengthen the response, develop each main point with a specific example or explanation and make the reasoning behind your balanced opinion more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the discussion, and signposts such as “Conversely,” “From my perspective,” and “In conclusion” make the structure clear. The ideas within each paragraph are generally ordered sensibly. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and the opening of the second paragraph, “As these devices give flexibility,” is a sentence fragment rather than a complete link to the preceding claim. The conclusion also repeats the balanced-view position without adding much synthesis. For a more flexible, polished flow, connect explanations more naturally and use references between ideas rather than relying mainly on explicit transition phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “flexibility,” “genres,” “sound systems,” and “professional setting,” and the meaning remains clear throughout. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “adopt a balanced approach.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “a significantly huge scene” does not describe a cinema screen naturally, and “a broader option” is awkward when referring to choices. “Utilization of telephones” is also unnecessarily formal for this context, while “ow opinion” appears to be a spelling or typing slip. Aim for natural collocations and precise nouns—for example, “large screen,” “wider range of choices,” and “my own opinion.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the conditional “if the public avoids going to cinemas” and the clause “while enjoying the recently released movies.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, including the fragment “As these devices give flexibility to the viewer to watch at their own pace,” which needs to be joined to the previous sentence or rewritten as a complete sentence. There are also article and number issues in “going to cinema halls” and “a fraction of money spent on movie tickets,” and “my ow opinion” contains a typing error. To improve control, check sentence completeness and article use, and vary sentence openings while keeping complex structures accurate.
