Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, technology is developing at an alarming rate, so many people argue that the best way to watch movies can be a phone or a tablet . However, others believe that people can fully enjoy only if they go to cinemas to watch films. This essay will discuss both perspectives along with my opinion in the subsequent paragraphs.

To begin with the former view, there are various reasons why some people prefer to watch movies in their phones. The predominant reasons is that people have flexiblity to watch movies at any place. To elaborate it, it is easy to carry a phone and internet is also available in everyones's phone ,which makes it convenient for individuals to watch movies at their prefered place. For instance; they can watch in buses, trains, parks and even at office when they have break. Moreover, it also saves money and time because they do not need to pay for each person, no travelling time and people can watch according to their schedule. If people buy a subscription of Netflix, the subscription can be used by more than one person. As a result, it not only makes less time consuming but also saves money.

Moving towards the later view, there are many people who still prefer to watch movies in cinemas. First of all, many people have choice to watch movies in cinemas becuase they like the infrastructure available in cinemas. For example; some individuals want a big screen and comfortable seats to make their mood more engaging in movies. As a result, this environment provides satisfaction to them.Apart from this, many people have choices to go cinemas to take a break from their hectic schedules ,which assist them to forget their problems for a short period. As an outcome, it can rejuvenate their mind.

To conclude it, both the perpectives have their own merits. Nevertheless, I support to second thought because it helps to reduce stress and relax the mind.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state your own position, supporting phone viewing with convenience, flexibility and lower costs, and cinema viewing with the large screen, comfortable seats and a chance to relax. These are relevant reasons, and the Netflix example helps illustrate the cost point. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the cinema discussion is brief, and the claim that cinema visits reduce stress would benefit from a specific explanation or example. Your opinion appears clearly in the conclusion, but it is only briefly justified. To strengthen the response, explain more fully why the cinema experience offers enjoyment that a personal device cannot, and connect your final preference to the reasons discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Moving towards,” and “To conclude” help readers identify each stage. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some flexibility in organising the discussion. However, several transitions feel formulaic, and some links between ideas are not fully smooth. For example, the Netflix subscription point follows the general cost argument but could be connected more explicitly to how it saves money. There are also occasional punctuation and spacing issues that interrupt the flow. Use fewer stock transitions and make the relationship between each example and its main point more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “contemporary era,” “convenient,” “subscription,” “infrastructure,” “hectic schedules,” and “rejuvenate.” These choices allow you to discuss both practical benefits and the cinema experience. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices, such as “the predominant reasons is,” “watch movies in their phones,” and “support to second thought.” Spelling errors such as “flexiblity,” “prefered,” “becuase,” and “perpectives” also reduce precision, although the intended meaning is generally clear. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. Replacing awkward phrases with standard expressions will make your ideas sound more fluent and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “which,” and “when,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as the explanation that people can watch “according to their schedule.” However, there are some errors in agreement, articles, prepositions and sentence construction. For example, “The predominant reasons is” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “people have choice” needs an article or plural form. In “which assist them,” the verb does not agree with the preceding idea. Punctuation around examples and sentence boundaries is also inconsistent. Review agreement and article use, and proofread longer sentences to ensure each clause is grammatically connected.
