Student answer (Band 5.5)
Due to technological advancement, a number of different platforms has been created where people can entertain themselves. There are predominantly two contrasting views where a section of society claims that movies can be seen on phones or tablets instead of going to cinemas. while other emphasize that theatres are the most enjoyable platform to watch films. I am of the opinion that the balanced importance should be given to both sources.
on the one hand, the major reason of watching movies on smartphones and tablets is saving time. To illustrate this, people can save their time by avoiding travel to cinemas, giving them more time to do their important life tasks. Moreover, cinemas can be expensive as compared to phones as the former is every time spending whereas the later is one-time spending and can be used for various purposes. For example, people can also save their money which they have to spend on buying tickets for cinemas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You introduce both views and state a position—“balanced importance should be given to both sources”—but the response develops only the advantages of watching on phones and tablets. The cinema viewpoint is mentioned in the introduction, then not explained, and your own balanced opinion is not supported with reasons. The points about saving travel time and avoiding ticket costs are relevant, but they remain brief and the example does not add much detail. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, leaving too little space to address all parts of the question. To improve, explain why cinema viewing can be more immersive, compare the two experiences, and support your position with specific examples and fuller reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some clear organisation: an introductory paragraph presents the topic and your position, followed by a body paragraph beginning “on the one hand” that develops one side. Linking expressions such as “To illustrate this” and “Moreover” help show relationships between ideas. However, the response ends without a paragraph on the opposing view or a conclusion, so the overall progression is incomplete. The contrast signalled by “on the one hand” is not followed by “on the other hand,” and the ideas within the paragraph are connected more by listing than by a developed line of reasoning. Use separate paragraphs for each view, then conclude by explaining how they support your opinion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “technological advancement,” “platforms,” “cinemas,” and “one-time spending.” These choices make the general subject clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several phrases are awkward or imprecise, such as “the balanced importance,” “the major reason of watching,” and “the former is every time spending.” “The later” is also the wrong word form for the intended contrast. These choices sometimes make the reader work to understand your meaning, even though the main points remain understandable. Aim for natural collocations and precise comparisons, such as describing cinema tickets as a recurring expense and a device as a one-off purchase.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex opening with “where” and a sentence beginning “To illustrate this.” Most ideas can be understood, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “a number of different platforms has been created” has subject–verb disagreement, and “while other emphasize” needs a plural noun and verb form. The sentence beginning “There are predominantly two contrasting views where…” also uses an unclear clause structure. Capitalisation after the full stop in “cinemas. while” is incorrect, and the final sentence is a fragment-like continuation of the previous point. Work on agreement, sentence boundaries, and constructing clear clauses; then check punctuation and capital letters during proofreading.
