Student answer (Band 6.0)

People think that trend of going to cenima is becoming obsolete becuase they prefer watching films on phones and tablets. On other hand there is a group who thinks watching film on a cenima screen gives a special kind of enjoyment so they can never be replaced. Both views are true upto certain limits and I also have mixed opinion about it.

People prefer watching films at home on their personal appliances because of several reasons. First of all they do not have to follow a schedule to see a particular movie, no time table is needed. They dont have to wait for a particular day or make a time to go and watch a specific show. Secondly they can see a movie in their own comfort zone while lying in bed, or sitting on a couch, however they like. Another reason is they do not require to get dressed up, and look for a transport or make any other special arrangement just to watch a movie.

Others who say that films can only be enjoyed on big cenima screens are mostly the ones who are very keen about the release date of movies and big fans of particular actors. They are mostly extroverts. First reason to prefer cenima is to watch a movie soon after it is released. Secondly, the visuals and 3D experience of cenima can not be enjoyed at home. The quality of sound in cenima is also extraordinary. And most important reason is people use this movie plan as a source of recreation. They go to movies followed by a dinner or lunch. They plan once or twice a month according to the schedule which suits them.

Both groups have their own particular reasons. As far as my opinion is concerned I prioritise watching movies at home but sometimes when friends and family insist on joining them to watch a movie I do accompany them. So it basically depends on the mood and need of hour.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a personal position: you explain the convenience of home viewing, then the cinema’s large screen, sound and social appeal, before saying you generally prefer watching at home. These points are relevant and the response has a clear overall direction. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, describing cinema-goers as “mostly extroverts” or as fans focused on release dates is a broad generalisation, and the social benefits of a cinema outing could be illustrated more specifically. Your opinion is also called “mixed,” but the final paragraph could clarify more directly when cinema is worthwhile and why. Develop the reasons with a concrete example and make the comparison more explicit to strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response is organised into a clear introduction, one paragraph for each viewpoint, and a conclusion, so the reader can follow the overall progression. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “Another reason” help present supporting points, and the final paragraph returns to your own preference. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some movement towards more flexible organisation. However, the repeated list-like transitions make parts of the essay feel mechanical, while links between ideas are sometimes abrupt—for instance, the shift from cinema’s technical advantages to going out for a meal. Use a wider range of linking methods and explain how each point connects to the paragraph’s main idea. A clearer transition into your personal judgement would also improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss both viewing options, including phrases such as “comfort zone,” “release date,” “3D experience,” and “source of recreation.” The meaning is generally clear, but the range is limited by repeated use of basic words such as “watch,” “movie,” and “reason,” and some choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward. Examples include “personal appliances,” “on a cinema screen,” and “need of hour”; these reduce naturalness even when the intended meaning can be understood. Spelling errors such as “cenima” and “becuase” are also noticeable. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and common word partnerships, while avoiding broad labels such as “extroverts” unless they are clearly supported.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including clauses with “because,” “while,” and “when,” and the main ideas remain understandable. Some sentences are controlled, such as “They go to movies followed by a dinner or lunch.” However, there are some errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms. For example, “there is a group who thinks” is awkwardly formed, and “when friends and family insist on joining them to watch a movie I do accompany them” has unclear pronoun reference and would benefit from clearer clause structure. Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent, as in “watching film” and “on a cinema screen.” Review article use, agreement, and punctuation around longer clauses, and vary sentence patterns while keeping them accurate.
