Student answer (Band 5.5)

Time is changed and so we are. Earlier we used to watch movies only in cinema as technology was limited. Now we have all the innovations to watch series and movies on gadgets like mobile, tablet, and so on. Everything is more accessible nowadays and its beneficial for us in numerous manner.

Some people say that now we can watch films on our phones or tablets there is no need to go to the cinema as it saves our time and money. We also have the ability to pause, replay, rewind, skip the scenes on our gadgets but it is not possible in cinema. Additionally, we can also choose the show on our own and we can watch it whenever we want to asthere is no time bound.

In contrast, others suggest that to be fully enjoyed, films need to be seen in a cinema as we are able to enjoy the experience on huge screen moreover with 3D effect.

But there are various limitations in a cinema hall, for example, many places don't allow to take small children's, many forbid to bring food and water inside and some even ask to remove shoes.

Furthermore, many cinemas may have bad oder, uncleaned floors and unhygenic seats and so on.

Therefore, I consider that its better to watch movies on your gadgets as its more accessible to everyone. We can also create create good environment and make arrangements according to us. Additionally we can also buy further gadgets to experience good picture quality and nice sound system with 3D effect. Its more relaxing and convinent for all rather than going to cinemas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and state your preference clearly: watching at home is “more accessible to everyone.” The points about saving time and money, controlling playback, and enjoying a cinema’s large screen and 3D effects are relevant. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the cinema’s viewing experience is mentioned briefly, while the list of restrictions and cleanliness problems takes up space without explaining how typical or important these are. The response is also 7 words below the 250-word minimum; the 28 words copied from the prompt are not counted. To strengthen the response, develop each side with a specific example and explain why your chosen advantages outweigh the cinema experience.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, points supporting home viewing, a contrast about cinemas, and a concluding opinion. Linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “Furthermore,” and “Therefore” help signal the direction of the argument. However, progression is uneven: the paragraph about cinema benefits is very short, followed by a separate list of drawbacks, so the comparison does not develop in a balanced way. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, particularly “moreover” joining the large-screen and 3D points, and the long sentence beginning “Additionally” combines several ideas. Group related points more deliberately and use clear sentence boundaries and references to make the argument flow more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “accessible,” “3D effect,” “picture quality,” and “sound system.” There is also some variety in how you describe the two options. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “time is changed,” “no time bound,” and “bad oder.” Spelling errors in “unhygenic” and “convinent,” along with the repeated “create create,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural phrases and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe the flexibility of home viewing as “watch at a time that suits us” and refer to cinema facilities as “the big-screen experience.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “as” and “but,” and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent, and errors recur in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. Examples include “many places don't allow to take small children's,” where the verb pattern and noun phrase are faulty, and “Everything is more accessible nowadays and its beneficial,” where the clauses need clearer punctuation and “it’s” is required. The sentence beginning “Additionally, we can also choose” runs into “asthere,” making the relationship between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate clause joining and proofread for apostrophes, sentence boundaries, and complete grammatical patterns.
