Student answer (Band 6.0)

With the developing technology, some individuals prefer to watch movies at home via electronic device such as cell-phones or tablets whereas the rest believes it is must to go a theatre to enjoy the movie at its full potential. In my opinion, I prefer watching the film at home as it is time-saving, cost-effective and provides flexibility.

A section of society including me supports using electronic medias for movies rather than going to cinema. The main reason behind this is its flexibility. One can watch film at their own convenience, time and can pause and resume it whenever they want to. For instance, last week I was watching this movie and I received a call from my relative to ask if I can pick them up. I paused the movie, went out and resume it when I got free. Not only the conveniency but also it saves the time it takes to travel to the cinema and get back. In addition to this, the other reason is it is pocket-friendly. Nowadays, there are streaming platforms which requires subscription to get access to the movies. This subscriptions are way cheaper than the cinema tickets as well as have a cancellation policy. Furthermore, these services provides the customer with more options than the theatre can.

In contrast to this, few individuals still go to nearby cinemas as they believe it is more enjoyable. There can several reasons for this including privacy alongwith the food service. People want to have zero disturbance while enjoying the movie. They usually prefer to go with their peers. The cinema also provides proper and exciting sound effects so the guest can feel the thrill. The cinema gives the benefit of watching it on big screen with comfortable seating arrangement. Besides this, It can give easy food service of popcorns and cold drinks. At present time, individual can order the food while being on their seat and it arrives in no time. Some cinemas have their own app to collect points and get rewards like free cold drink or free food.

In conclusion, with advancing technology I with some individuals prefer to stay at home and enjoy the movie according to their preference while others loves to enjoy the film in theatre due to the services it provides on side with privacy

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state your own position clearly: you prefer watching at home, while the opposing paragraph explains the cinema’s large screen, sound, seating and food service. The personal example about pausing a film to answer a relative’s call also supports the convenience argument. These points make the response relevant and cover the task. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the home-viewing case has several distinct reasons, while the cinema case is mainly a list of features, with limited explanation of how they make films more enjoyable. The conclusion repeats the preference but could more directly weigh the two experiences. To strengthen the response, explain the impact of each key reason and connect it explicitly to the question of enjoyment.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting home viewing, a contrasting paragraph about cinemas, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “In contrast to this” and “In addition to this” help readers follow the shift between ideas, and the examples generally appear beside the points they illustrate. This coherent arrangement is a strength. At times, however, linking feels mechanical, and several ideas in the cinema paragraph are added as a list rather than developed in a clear sequence. The conclusion’s final sentence is also difficult to follow and does not provide a fully clear closing comparison. Improve progression by grouping related reasons, using references such as “this experience” clearly, and making the final summary a complete, direct statement.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “flexibility,” “cost-effective,” “streaming platforms,” “sound effects” and “cancellation policy.” These choices help communicate the main arguments, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “electronic medias,” “at its full potential,” “theatre can,” and “food service of popcorns.” “Conveniency” is also less suitable than the standard noun “convenience.” These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check whether nouns are countable: for example, use “streaming services,” “on the big screen,” and “popcorn and drinks.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including contrast clauses and examples introduced with “For instance.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction reduce accuracy. Examples include “the rest believes” and “This subscriptions … have,” where the subject and verb or determiner do not agree, and “There can several reasons,” which is missing a verb. In the conclusion, “others loves” also has an agreement error, while the final sentence lacks a clear grammatical completion. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and proofread each sentence for a complete clause. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence forms clearer.
