Student answer (Band 6.0)

Films on our phones or tablets or going to cinema?

I personally love wathcing movies in a cinema, that doesn't mean one can deny the fact that technology has made your favorite movie one click away.

Today we live in era full of technology, and watching movie at your home comfort was never this convienent ever before. Now, one can watch their favorite movie on tablet on your on comfort at home in your PJ's, what else one need to start a good weekend or a late evening quality time with your loved once. The best part is variety and convienence that brings along. One can watch variety of content or movie just on a click. Weather it's a regional movie or an international cinema your tablet can be gennie for you.

But my personal liking, i perferred to visit cinema, due to it's old charm. I enjoy going to cinema due to it's larger than life feeling, the atmosphere, the sound, the colours and a feeling of community and togetherness, where everyone enjoying together, one can't create that at home. For me going to cinema also build a memory with my friends and family. We still remember many of our cinema visits when we watched the movie had lunch and some great personal time together. Visiting cinema is one of the activity i love to do every quaterly.

If i have to summrise this, a blend of technology and the old charm of cinema should go hand and hand. Getting tablet in our hand shouldn't make us forget the worth of old cinema.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and make your preference clear: you value the convenience of watching at home, but personally prefer the cinema. The home-viewing paragraph gives relevant reasons, including choice, comfort and easy access, while the cinema paragraph explains the larger screen, sound and shared experience. These points answer the question, but they are not developed equally. The advantages of home viewing are mostly listed, and the claim that a tablet can offer a wide variety of films would be stronger with a specific example. Your conclusion proposes a “blend” of both options, but could state more directly when or why each is preferable. Develop the supporting examples and clarify your final position to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for home viewing, one for cinema, and a concluding summary. This makes the discussion easy to follow, and contrast words such as “But” help signal the shift between views. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening question does not introduce the two positions as smoothly as a direct thesis would, and “If I have to summarise this” is an informal transition that does not clearly connect the conclusion to the argument. Within the home-viewing paragraph, several benefits are placed in a sequence without showing how they relate. Use clearer topic sentences and link each reason to its explanation, while keeping references such as “that” precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “convenience,” “variety of content,” “larger than life,” “atmosphere,” and “feeling of community and togetherness.” These expressions help communicate the contrast between watching at home and going to the cinema. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations reduce accuracy: “wathcing,” “convienent,” “gennie,” and “old charm” are examples. Some phrases are also repetitive, particularly “one can watch” and “going to cinema.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, “a genie for you” does not naturally express easy access; “a convenient source of entertainment” would be clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “I personally love watching movies in a cinema, that doesn’t mean…” and the extended description of the cinema experience. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Today we live in era” needs an article, “one can watch their favorite movie on tablet” needs an article before “tablet,” and “going to cinema also build a memory” has an agreement error. The opening sentence also joins two independent clauses with a comma. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries, and vary long sentences with shorter, controlled ones to improve accuracy.
