Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this contemporary era, many people believe that films can be seen on the phones or tablets instead of going to cinema. Watching movies at home is less expensive and comfortable , and cinema is more expensive, but a better version to spend quality time with family . This essay will dicuss both these views.
In these days, there are lots of online platforms available such as Netflix, Prime Amazon and Youtube on the internet. People can watch the movies easily on the phones at anywhere. They do not need to spend extra money on the expensive tickets of cinema. They can also enjoy the movies while travelling. For exmaple, people who are travelling everyday to work in sky train, they can see the movies on their tablets comfortablly while sitting or standing.
On the other side, Cinema has a huge screen to enjoy the films. It costs expensive tickets to sit inside and the food is also very costly, and they also cannot control the volume system of the panel. But it is very beneficial for those people, who want to spend their holiday outside the house. They can take their familiy to watch a good movie to entertain them. For instance, my friend always takes her mother to Strwaberry Hill cinema to watch a comedy movie in order to spend a free time.
In conclusion, I would like to say that watching movies at home on phones or tablets is more convenienent and budget-friendly. We can sit at any corner of the house with our favourite snack to enjoy the movies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views: the first body paragraph explains the convenience and lower cost of watching films on devices, while the second discusses the cinema’s large screen and its value as an outing with family. Your conclusion also makes your preference for home viewing clear. However, the cinema-side argument is less fully developed: the comments about costly food and tickets do not explain why the cinema experience may make films more enjoyable, and the point about spending a holiday outside the house is not clearly linked to the task. Develop the contrast more directly—for example, explain how a large screen, sound, and a shared atmosphere enhance a film, then weigh these benefits against convenience and cost.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the other side” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant points. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, however. In the cinema paragraph, the sentence beginning “It costs expensive tickets” combines several ideas before shifting to the benefit of going out, so the contrast is difficult to follow. The introduction also previews both views but does not establish your own position until the conclusion. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each supporting detail explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to discuss the subject, including “online platforms,” “expensive tickets,” “huge screen,” and “budget-friendly.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and you attempt some more specific expressions such as “quality time with family.” However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice or collocation errors reduce precision: “dicuss,” “exmaple,” “comfortablly,” and “convenienent” are misspelled, while “costs expensive tickets” is not a natural phrase. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “watch the movies” and “enjoy the movies.” Check spelling carefully and build more natural combinations, such as “tickets are costly,” “watch films,” and “a more immersive cinema experience.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, including “People can watch the movies easily…” and the example beginning “For instance, my friend…”. The overall meaning is generally clear, but there are some errors in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and punctuation. For example, “on the phones or tablets” and “going to cinema” need more accurate article use, while “People can watch the movies easily on the phones at anywhere” has an awkwardly formed location phrase. The sentence starting “It costs expensive tickets…” also joins ideas in a way that makes the relationships unclear. Practise accurate article and preposition patterns, and divide long sentences when they contain several contrasting points.
