Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The opening identifies both views and promises an opinion, and the first body paragraph gives relevant reasons for watching films at home: convenience, lower cost, and time with family. However, the response stops before discussing the cinema view or stating your own position, so the central requirements of the task are largely unmet. The supporting points are also only briefly introduced; for example, the claim that home viewing suits busy people is not illustrated or explained further. The response is 156 words, below the required 250, and this leaves the argument incomplete. To improve, complete both sides of the discussion, state your view clearly, and develop each main point with an explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a recognisable structure: an introductory paragraph followed by a paragraph presenting reasons for home viewing. Sequencing words such as “To begin with,” “Firstly,” and “Moreover” help signal the order of points. However, the response ends abruptly at “People who belong to minora,” so there is no overall progression to a discussion of the opposing view or a conclusion. Some linking is also mechanical, with several points introduced in a list-like sequence rather than connected through explanation. The opening sentence would be clearer if its two clauses were separated or linked with appropriate punctuation. Plan a complete paragraph sequence and use transitions to show how each idea relates to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response attempts some topic-appropriate and more formal vocabulary, including “considerable debate,” “advocates,” “advantageous,” and “standpoint.” These choices show an effort to move beyond basic wording. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, as in “ackowledged,” “platfom,” “convienent,” and “minora,” and some phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “realistic experiences” and “watched movie on phones.” These issues sometimes make the intended meaning harder to follow. Build accuracy alongside range by checking spelling and learning common collocations for this topic, such as “watch films on a device,” “streaming services,” and “the cinema experience.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast structure beginning “While some argue…” and a relative clause in “people who wants to spend time with their families.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in verb forms and agreement recur: “people can watched” should use the base form after “can,” while “people who wants” requires a plural verb. The opening also joins two independent clauses without suitable punctuation, and “this approach proves advantageous” is followed by an awkwardly formed clause. These problems can make sentences difficult to process. Practise modal verb patterns, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
