Student answer (Band 6.5)

While some argue that we can watch movies on our personal gadgets nowadays and there is no need to visit cinema physically, others opine that movies should be watched in a cinema for better experience. Although techlonological advancements made our lives easier and comfortable, I believe theatres play an invaluable role to build memories and experience the environment.

On the one hand, it is noticeable that modern gadgets have inbuild features called 'subsciptions' to watch the latest film. In this era of continous hassle, people spend most of their useful times at work and it is quite impossible to visit cinema to watch movies. To utilize vacant hours, professional workers prefer to see films on their tablets and phones. Also, web-series surpassed the traditional movies concept, now people enjoy watching series which includes a number of episodes.

On the other hand, numerous people are still in favor of cinema because it offers countless benefits. Firstly, it provides an opportunity to enhance social bonds, for instance, individuals can go with their friends and family members. Moreover, a cinema offers an exemplary enviroment with high quality audio-visual effects and comfortable seatings. With all these facilities, snacks during interval encourages people to stay connected to the movie until it finishes.

Based on the aforementioned reasoning, I reiterate my position that watching a movie in a cinema is considered to be one of the best experiences. Nodoubt, technology has gained a significant appreciation from individuals, a time well spent with our near and dear ones during movies in a theatre is always memorable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for cinema in the introduction and conclusion. The points about convenience for busy workers and the social and audiovisual benefits of theatres are relevant, and the examples of going with family or friends help support your position. This meets the task well, with some evidence of the fuller development expected at the next level. However, the first view is less developed: the reference to subscriptions and web series does not explain in detail why watching films on personal devices can be a satisfying alternative. The claim that snacks keep people connected to a movie is also not clearly explained. Develop each main point with a specific reason or example to make the discussion more balanced and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. The progression from convenience to the benefits of cinema is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “Based on the aforementioned reasoning” make the organisation clear. This is a strong feature of the response. To make the cohesion more flexible and natural, avoid relying mainly on formulaic transitions and add clearer links between individual claims and their explanations. For example, the move from workers’ limited free time to web series feels abrupt; explain how this point relates to the convenience of watching on a device. The final paragraph could also synthesise the two views rather than simply repeat your preference.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “technological advancements,” “social bonds,” and “audio-visual effects.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “inbuild features called ‘subscriptions’,” “useful times,” “comfortable seatings,” and “a time well spent.” There are also spelling errors, including “techlonological,” “subsciptions,” “continous,” and “enviroment.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and control. Aim for natural combinations such as “streaming subscriptions,” “free time,” and “comfortable seating,” and proofread carefully for spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Although technological advancements made our lives easier…” and a relative clause in “series which includes a number of episodes.” Most ideas remain understandable, and the sentence structures allow you to discuss both sides. Some grammatical errors persist, however. For example, “there is no need to visit cinema” needs an article, while “people spend most of their useful times” has an awkward plural construction. In “snacks during interval encourages people,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “a time well spent … is always memorable” is not formed naturally. Review articles, agreement, and sentence construction, then check that each clause expresses the intended relationship clearly.
