Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniably true that people have access to all the films and shows to watch them on television or smartphones, which eliminates the need of watching it in a cinema. While a segment of society believes in going to the cinema to achieve full satisfaction, I would argue that watching movies at home would certainly provide immense happiness and comfort.

To commense with, everyone is now be able to view the latest movies on tablets or phones. In my opinion, it is the priviledge to experience the feeling of joy and comfort without paying for the cinema tickets. Certain movies are only available on the OTT platforms such as Netflix, and Amazon Prime, which require a monthly or yearly subscription; however, that is definitely less than the movie tickets. In addition to that, people can comfortably watch them while snacking or sleeping on the couch, reducing the stiffness, usually occurs by sitting on the seats for longer hours continuously.

Notwithstanding this, individuals often have to compromise the original theatre print while watching movies at home. Some Hollywood movies have fantastic animations and a great quality which cannot be experienced at in a smaller screen. Additionally, some pictures have a specially designed goggals, and by wearing them one can feel the movie. It feels like as they are in the movie alongside with the actors. To exemplify, movies like Annaconda, a Blue Whale are only available in cinemas because they cannot be seen without special glasses.

To encapsulate the main arguments, although some movies are limited to the cinemas, I believe that seeing movies in the mobile phones is a great choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state your own position clearly: you favour watching films at home, while acknowledging that cinema can provide a more immersive experience. The points about subscription costs and comfort are relevant, as is the contrast with large-screen animation and special glasses. However, the cinema-side examples are not fully clear or convincing: the claim that certain films are “only available in cinemas” is too broad, and the examples “Annaconda, a Blue Whale” are difficult to interpret. Some ideas, such as the benefits of cinema viewing, need fuller explanation and support. Develop each side with a precise example and explain how it supports your argument; this would make the discussion more balanced and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each viewpoint, and a concluding statement. Linking expressions such as “In addition to that,” “Notwithstanding this,” and “To encapsulate” help signal the stages of the discussion, and the reader can follow your main position. This already gives the essay a coherent progression. However, some transitions feel formulaic, and connections within the cinema paragraph are not always smooth: the move from screen size to special glasses and then to films supposedly exclusive to cinemas needs clearer explanation. The conclusion also repeats your preference without drawing together the two sides. Use more natural links between related points and make references explicit to strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “subscription,” “animations,” “stiffness,” and “specially designed,” and your meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at less common or formal expressions, such as “Notwithstanding this” and “To encapsulate.” However, some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “priviledge” for the intended idea, “theatre print,” and “achieve full satisfaction.” Spelling errors such as “commense,” “goggals,” and “Annaconda” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than formal-sounding phrases, and check spelling carefully. More accurate wording would help you express the contrast between convenience and the immersive cinema experience with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “While a segment of society believes…” and a relative clause in “which require a monthly or yearly subscription.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “everyone is now be able” has an incorrect verb form, and “reducing the stiffness, usually occurs” needs a grammatical link between the clauses. There are also problems with articles and prepositions in “at in a smaller screen” and “alongside with the actors.” Work on accurate verb patterns, clause construction, and preposition use, then proofread longer sentences. This will preserve your range while making the writing more consistently controlled.
