Student answer (Band 5.0)
I thought phones are good for entertainment like social media and calling, msgs and so on but if i talk about movies in cinama so i strongly prefer to watch a movie in a cinema because they manage a good quality sound system over there and picture quality is better on it with a huge screen moreover they have comfort sofa to watch a whole movie in addition they provide snacks and drinks which makes more easy to watch a movie in a cinema and some people prefer to watch a movie in a tablet or phone because they find coomfort and relaxing at home and on benefit side if i talk about then its very useful because you can pause and play according to your need like if you want to use restroom then its easy at home but if you use restroom at cinema you will probably miss some scene and both have their own benefits in there own ways but i prefer watching a movie in cinema only.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear personal preference for cinema, supported by relevant points about sound, picture quality, a large screen, seating and refreshments. You also represent the opposing view by noting that people can relax at home and pause a film when needed. However, the discussion is brief and the ideas are mostly listed rather than explained or supported with examples, so the two views are not explored in enough depth. The response also contains 171 words, which is below the required 250, leaving limited space to develop your reasoning. To strengthen the response, explain why home viewing suits some people and expand on how the cinema experience improves enjoyment, then add a relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic overall direction: it moves from the advantages of cinema to the convenience of watching at home and ends by restating your preference. Some linking expressions, such as “moreover,” “in addition” and “but,” help show relationships between points. However, nearly all the ideas are packed into one long sentence, so the reader has difficulty following where one point ends and another begins. The repeated use of “and” also makes the progression feel like a list rather than a developed discussion. Use separate paragraphs for the two views and your opinion, and connect each point with clear, varied transitions. This would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “sound system,” “picture quality,” “huge screen,” “pause and play” and “benefits.” These choices are relevant to the topic. However, the range is limited and some wording is informal, repetitive or imprecise, such as “good quality,” “more easy” and “on benefit side.” There are also spelling errors, including “cinama,” “coomfort” and “msgs,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe the cinema’s “immersive viewing experience” or say that home viewing offers “greater convenience,” while avoiding repeated use of “good” and “easy.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your response communicates a clear preference and attempts to connect several ideas in longer sentences. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and the long run-on sentence makes grammatical relationships difficult to follow. There are frequent errors in sentence boundaries, capitalisation and punctuation; for example, the opening “I thought phones are good” shifts awkwardly between past and present, and the response continues with lowercase “i” and few full stops. Articles and sentence patterns are also sometimes inaccurate, as in “in a tablet or phone” and “makes more easy to watch.” Use shorter, complete sentences, check verb tense and agreement, and add full stops and commas to make each idea clear.
