Student answer (Band 6.0)

With an advent of smart phones and tablets, people have become socially isolated. Although watching movies in theatres allows individuals to expose themselves in community while enjoying the moments, I believe watching them at home on smart phones or tablets can give more comfort to people and contribute lesser environment pollution by eliminating commution.

On the one hand, Cinemas offer large screen and excellent sound systems with significant number of seats. people often enjoy cheering up together on special scenes which provides them a sense of joy. Furthermore, nowadays youngsters like to meet strangers, make new friends. For example, sometimes being in cinema hall enable people to communicate with unknowns, encouraging them to develope their communication skills and learn cultural values. In some cases, washrooms in cinema halls are not well-mantained and restaurants provide poor customer services that do not worth the money paid for utilizing it.

On the other hand, in this digitalized world, variety of movies and shows can be found on online platforms such as Youtube, Netflix, Primevideos. people can choose what they like to watch while sitting on a cozy couch with healthy homemade snacks. Using smart devices to enjoy films also reduce dependency on commuting in heavy traffic roads. Decline in use of private vehicles contributes helthier environment by less fuel consumption and carbon emmisions

To conclude, Although cinemas have many things to offer, I strongly believe that watching films on phones or tablets can provide well-mantained personal space and flexibility which allows people to watch anything at anytime.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and make your own position clear: cinemas offer a shared experience, while home viewing is more comfortable and avoids some travel. The examples about cheering together and choosing films on streaming platforms are relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the cinema discussion includes several points, but the home-viewing argument relies mainly on comfort and reduced commuting. The claim that cinema visits help people make friends or learn cultural values would benefit from a clearer explanation, and the environmental point needs more precise support. The brief criticism of cinema facilities and restaurants also distracts from the central comparison. Develop fewer points in more depth and connect each directly to whether cinema viewing is necessary or preferable.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” helps readers follow the overall direction. However, progression within paragraphs is less controlled: the cinema paragraph moves from screen and sound to socialising, then to washrooms and restaurant service without showing how these points relate. Some links between claims are also unclear, particularly the shift from cinema facilities to the benefits of home viewing. Use topic sentences that establish each paragraph’s main idea, group related support together, and add clearer references or transitions so the argument develops smoothly rather than reading as a list.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “sound systems,” “online platforms,” “commuting,” and “carbon emissions,” and you attempt more specific expressions such as “socially isolated” and “customer services.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however, which limits precision: “expose themselves in community” does not naturally express social interaction, and “contribute lesser environment pollution” is unclear. There are also spelling errors in “commution,” “develope,” “well-mantained,” “helthier,” and “emmisions.” These do not prevent the main ideas from being understood, but careful proofreading and more natural collocations would strengthen the response. Prefer precise phrases such as “interact with others” and “reduce environmental pollution.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and complex forms, including the opening concessive clause beginning “Although” and the sentence explaining how private vehicles affect the environment. The main meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “Cinemas offer large screen” needs an article and plural agreement (“a large screen” or “large screens”), while “people often enjoy” and “people can choose” need capital letters at the start of sentences. In “Using smart devices … also reduce,” the subject requires a singular verb (“reduces”). The final sentence also needs a comma after its introductory “Although” clause. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and sentence punctuation, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
