| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

| Coherence and Cohesion | 7.5 |
| Lexical Resource | 7.0 |
| Grammatical Range and Accuracy | 6.5 |
| Overall | 7.5 |
Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter covers all three bullet points effectively. You clearly describe the machinist role at TCS, explain why your friend's mechanical certification makes him a strong candidate, and provide a logical step-by-step guide on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a helpful and encouraging persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, ensure that all minor details, such as the specific nature of the 'in-person' work, are explained with slightly more precision to fully flesh out the scenario.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this' and 'Since', which help the flow of information. However, the transition between the job description and the application process could be smoother. Some cohesive devices feel slightly repetitive or mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that each paragraph transitions naturally into the next, rather than relying on similar sentence starters. Overall, the message is easy to follow and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal-informal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'mechanical blueprints', 'quality control', and 'competency'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'well suits' (should be 'well suited') and 'in this month' (should be 'this month'). While you attempt some less common vocabulary, there is room to increase the sophistication of your word choices to sound more natural. Focus on collocations—for example, instead of 'get a job', you could use 'secure a position'. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without any significant confusion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several recurring grammatical errors that affect accuracy. For instance, 'I writing' should be 'I am writing', 'you looking' should be 'you have been looking', and 'might be require' should be 'might be required'. Additionally, 'this job is well suits' is grammatically incorrect. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses and passive voice constructions, ensuring that auxiliary verbs are consistently included.
