Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear John,
I'm writing to tell you about a job in a local company which might be suitable for you.
I hope you're in a great health and high spirit. You'd be glad to know that your search for the job might get over very soon. I recently heard about a job of Sales Manager which will be suitable for you. In this job you have to work for sales and purchase department in the workfield
I believe that this job will be suitable for you because you did your masters degree in Marketing. Moreover, you had an experience of eight years which is enough to get this job and demonstrate your marketing skills and strategies effectively.
Therefore, I'll share the email address along with the contact number and location of the office where you would directly share your resume. Furthermore, you may also ask them about the terms and conditions of the company before applying. Additionally, you may visit their website where you can have a look of company's infrastructure. I hope you'll qualify the interview with flying colours and get your dream job.
I can't wait to hear the good news from you.
Best wishes,
Manmeet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You clearly identified the job (Sales Manager), explained why it is suitable (marketing degree and eight years of experience), and provided instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific detail about the 'workfield' or the nature of the company to make the scenario feel more authentic and fully realised.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally' to link your ideas. While the progression is generally smooth, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in their placement at the start of sentences. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. The overall structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'qualify the interview with flying colours' and 'demonstrate your marketing skills and strategies' are used effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'in a great health' (should be 'in great health') and 'workfield' (which is not a standard English term). You also use 'share' repeatedly when referring to sending a resume. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free, though there are occasional slips, such as 'look of company's infrastructure' (should be 'look at the company's infrastructure') and 'your search for the job might get over' (which is slightly unnatural phrasing). Punctuation is generally accurate, and your control over verb tenses is consistent. To improve, focus on ensuring articles (a/the) are used correctly and refining your phrasing to sound more natural.
