Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Kim,

I Hope that you are doing great. Since you mentioned that you are actively surfing for employment oppurtunities. I am writing to update you about a job oppurtunity which I found in one local company through my colleague and looks like it would be a suitable option for you ,As it is a softwere developer job which includes data optimization, graphic design, data analysis not only with flexible hours but it also offers compesative wages including numerous benefits.

Moreover, I think you will be a perfect fit for this oppurtunity as you have a background in computer , apart from that you are also studying masters with data science and the work schedule is quite adjustable, so neither your studies would be compensated nor you have to sacrifice any lectures allowing you to pursue your education withiout financial burden.

Furthermore, you need to provide me a copy of your resume along with proof of ID and degree certificate at your earliest convenience.

Looking forward for the docuements.Hope that we get a positive response. All the best for future.

Regards,

Anna

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly described the software developer role, explained why your friend's background in computer science and data science makes them a suitable candidate, and provided clear instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are developed with slightly more detail; for example, you could explain the nature of the local company or the specific application process in more depth. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to the job details, the reasons for suitability, and finally the application process. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is somewhat inconsistent, and some sentences are run-on or lack clear punctuation, which affects the flow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus. Improving your sentence-level punctuation will also help the reader follow your arguments more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'data optimization', 'flexible hours', and 'financial burden'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'oppurtunities', 'softwere', 'compesative', and 'withiout'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional quality of the writing. While the meaning remains clear, you should focus on proofreading your work to eliminate these basic spelling mistakes. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would also help elevate your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with sentence boundaries and punctuation. For example, 'Since you mentioned that you are actively surfing for employment oppurtunities. I am writing...' is a sentence fragment error. Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'Looking forward for the docuements'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly. Reducing the frequency of these errors will significantly improve your overall band score.
