Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Rahul,

Hope you are doing great in your life. I just wanted to let you know that I recently heard about a role vacancy in a local organisation that might be perfect for you.

I remember a month back you had written me about your job hoping in my country. I came to know about a local company offering an engineer role which I think will be suitable for you. In this role you have to do quality inspection in a manufacturing firm and report that to the plant manager.

Why I am suggesting you this job is because you already have 3 years experience in the same field, also I remember we both have studied this subject in our master's. You earned A plus grade in that. That's why I think you must apply for this position.

To register for this role, I am sending you a website link where you will find a section related to careers. Just choose the role and after filing your personal information and experience you are good to go.

It would be great if you apply for this position.

With love

Karan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5

The letter successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the job as a quality inspection role, explain why your friend is a suitable candidate based on their experience and academic background, and provide clear instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. You have addressed all parts of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Why I am suggesting you this job' and 'To register for this role', which help the flow of information. However, the transition between sentences could be slightly more sophisticated to reach a higher band. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'role vacancy', 'quality inspection', and 'manufacturing firm'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'job hoping' instead of 'job hunting' or 'job search', and 'filing your personal information' which should be 'filling in'. Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly and naturally in a semi-formal/informal context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are some grammatical errors, such as 'I remember a month back you had written me about your job hoping' (should be 'wrote to me about your job search') and 'I am suggesting you this job' (should be 'suggesting this job to you'). Punctuation is generally accurate, but there are occasional awkward phrasings. The errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the writing from being considered fully error-free.
