Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Dave,

I hope you are doing well. I am glad to know that your are looking for job in my hometown. I have some information which might help you in your search.

Well, the job market here in India is quiet different than how it used to be in Canada. I have short listed some jobs in my city which might fit your preference. As you have academic and practical knowledge in IT, the role in the Airtel international is for web developer which perfectly aligns your background.

As you have extensive knowledge and hands-on practice which is minimal requirement of this position. Your experience of working in one of the companies while you were in your internship will help you a lot while working.

It is extremely easy to apply for the position online on their website also you can send email directly. I will send you the link and the website so you will get more knowledge about the company. Let me know if you want to know anything else.

Can't wait to see you.

Best regards,

Sonam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You introduced the job at Airtel, explained why it is suitable for Dave due to his IT background, and provided instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To improve, ensure that your explanation of the job role is slightly more detailed; for example, you mention it is a 'web developer' role, but describing specific tasks would add more depth. Overall, the response is clear, relevant, and fully meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As you have' and 'In addition', though the flow between sentences could be smoother. At times, the transition between ideas feels slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is more tightly connected. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter format.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'academic and practical knowledge', 'aligns', and 'extensive knowledge'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'quiet different' (should be 'quite') and 'minimal requirement of this position' (which is a sentence fragment). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated collocations related to employment would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'your are looking for job' (should be 'you are looking for a job') and 'the role in the Airtel international is for web developer' (missing articles). Additionally, some sentences are slightly fragmented or lack proper punctuation. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
