Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sirajuddin,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this to you, that I have found suitable job for you in Canada. I have received your message that you are looking for the job here in Calgary, Canada.
So basically, the job opening is for a Manger level in Amazon Supply chain. The job includes various duties such as managing the inventory of the company, minimizing the waste, reduce the shipping time, and make the best use of the resources available. Even you have to manage your supply chain team, and many a time you need to work as a cross-functional team.
This job opening will perfectly match your background. This is because you are working as a manager in Ikea for over 3 years, and you also have a good background for this job. Moreover, as you mentioned me last time, that you are completing advance study in the field of Supply chain. So this job will perfectly suit you.
Applying for this job is not very hard, you can apply it through Indeed or their company website. I will prefer you to apply it from the company website, and you can write my friend's name in the referral section. His name is Rohan.
I wish you all the best for this opportunity.
Kind regards,
Nizamuddin Memon

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly described the job at Amazon, explained why it is a good fit based on your friend's background at Ikea and his current studies, and provided a clear method for applying. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanations are slightly more detailed; for instance, you could elaborate on how the 'cross-functional' aspect of the role specifically relates to his previous experience. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'This is because' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the job description and the suitability section could be more fluid. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the letter is easy to read.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use relevant industry-specific terms like 'inventory', 'supply chain', and 'cross-functional'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'I will prefer you to apply it' (should be 'I would recommend you apply') and 'make the best use of the resources' (which is fine, but could be more concise). While you use some good collocations, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and more precise verbs would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'I am writing this to you, that I have found' is awkward; it should be 'I am writing to tell you that I have found'. You also have issues with articles ('a Manger level', 'the job') and prepositions ('apply it through' should be 'apply for it through'). Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
