Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Khush,

I'm writing to you because as per our last conversation you told me that you were looking for a job in my country because you want to move out from your old house. I have a good news for you, one of the local company near my area is hiring for sales lead in a retain store.

Company's name is XYZ and they are looking for individual who have experience in sales. I clearly remember you telling me that now you want to switch from car sale to something in retail. This role requires you to manage sales, inventory, managing team under you, and obviously increasing sales. I know from our college days how single handedly you used mange our project, working with other students and guiding them. So your team managing skill will be a great asset for this role.

You can apply online on their website or by calling them you can schedule in person interview. The phone number will be on the website.

I'm really excited for you, I know you will definitely crack the interview and will get the job. So we can live in the same city and can have fun as we do.

Regards,

Bhargav.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter covers all three bullet points effectively. You clearly describe the sales lead role, explain why your friend's background in car sales and project management makes them a good fit, and provide instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, being informal and encouraging. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the ideas are well-developed. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific details about the company or the application process to make the advice feel even more practical and realistic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a friendly closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'I clearly remember' and 'So your team managing skill', to link sentences. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or repetitive. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother, particularly in the second paragraph where you connect the job requirements to your friend's skills.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'inventory', 'asset', and 'retail store'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'move out from your old house' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context) and 'single handedly you used mange' (which contains a spelling error and awkward word order). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more precise collocations and checking for small spelling slips will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'one of the local company' (should be 'companies'), 'individual who have' (should be 'an individual who has'), and 'managing team under you' (should be 'managing the team under you'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and article errors. While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your message. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
